Great reaction! If you like good old-fashioned comedy shows, then you should react to *Fawlty Towers* (1974,1978). There are 12 stand-alone episodes altogether, but I suggest starting with S1 E1. You won't regret it; no one in the UK doesn't like this comedy. It's arguably the best British comedy.

There is no "best British comedy" it's all down to personal preferences. I like Only fools and horses, love thy neighbour, Steptoe and son, Rising damp, Bless this house, Dads army, Man about the house, George and Mildred etc, etc, and of course Fawlty towers. But every one has their own personal favourites, many later comedies are also brilliant like Outnumbered, Father Ted etc, etc. The comedy list is endless really, Open all hours, Minder, In sickness and in health, Are you being served, One foot in the grave, Absolutely fabulous, Till death us do part, The vicar of Dibley being just a few more that come to mind.

I beg to differ, these are work colleagues they know each other and possibly dated in the past, you wouldn't do this with strangers obviously. It's just a bit of fun under the mistletoe and the girls were obviously up for it, if they weren't they'd tell you in no uncertain terms. People were sensible in those days and didn't need to tip toe around each other for fear of "offending" someone.

Hi N&J, Even though the humour is outdated/sexist you've got to remember this was the early '70s & as the saying goes "The past is like a Foreign Country they do things differently there" I still have a great fondness for this show still, Tragically the actor who played Jack the Cheeky Chappie (Bob Grant) became typecast by his role and never managed to get more serious ones in the ensuing years & after numerous suicide attempts finally took his his own life in 2003, In fact most of the cast have moved on to the Great Bus Depot in the Sky now, But a whole generation of British people still have a lasting fondness for this sitcom even with all it's faults, BTW If you want to see something dreadful watch the U.S remake of it "Lotsa Luck" where they changed the setting to a lost property office & as the American producers like to do they removed all the humour from the start!😲 🤭 Anyway love your reactions Cheers 🇺🇸♥️🇬🇧✌️👍

Not a brilliant series, it was just a vehicle for Reg Varney (Stan the Bus Driver) to keep appearing on TV. An older Music Hall Entertainer and very popular, he had appeared in two other series in the 60's, one of which was very well received, "The Rag Trade". The other was not so popular, "Beggar My Neighbour". Born in 1916 he was 52 when this series started so a bit old to be Doris's son. She was only 11 years older than him. The Inspector Blakey, was 10 years younger than Reg. It always rankled with me to see Reg Varney chasing and snogging young women in this series even back then, just didn't seem right to a teenager at the time, but the older generations liked him and watched the program (there were only 3 TV channels). Occasionally the writers did come up with some funny situations it has to be admitted. Reg left the show before it finished, to go do films, appearances, a tour of Australia etc ... mostly never to be heard of again.

@charlescarter9600 ... In your opinion, but it's pretty much different strokes for different folks, I happen to rate on the buses very much above Porridge (which I found very boring) also above Open all hours which I feel became quite monotonous, On the buses is very much in the "Carry on films style" which I appreciate. This was broadcast on Christmas Day 1970 which shows how popular it was with viewers, despite the poor critical reception. Half of the episodes of series four were made in black and white owing to industrial action which affected many ITV programmes. Full -time colour broadcasts on the two main UK channels had only begun in November 1969.

This is an unusual choice.👍🇬🇧 On the buses is a much loved British classic and was so successful it spawned three big screen films...On the buses, Mutiny on the buses and Holiday on...thanks for your reactions.👍💓🇬🇧🤗

Yes, and the first film "On the buses" (1971) became Britain's top box office film of the year.

Reg Varney (Stan) was only 11 years younger than Doris Hare (Mum), so thinking they were married is maybe an easier mistake to make than people may think. Michael Robbins and Anna Karen (Arthur & Olive), were quite a bit younger. Anna was the last member of the key cast to leave us, dying in 2022. I'll admit to never liking the show, but Stephen Lewis's Blakey was definitely an icon. Enjoy it more now from a historical point of view!

It was a great show, ran for seven series, a total of 74 episodes. There were also three on the buses movies made, the first one (On the buses) in 1971 became Britain's top box office film of 1971 even beating the new James Bond film released that year.

Love on the buses. All buses years ago had a driver and clippey he or she issued the ticket after you paid for the ride.

"Any more fares please" 😂"move along inside" 😂 "hold on tight" 😂All the cries of the Bus Conductor, the last two you would usually hear in the busier hours when people would be standing up as all the seats would be taken. All long gone now of course.

I grew up with this series. There were 3 feature films too. It wasn't unusual in those days for a tv series to have a cinema film.

If Arthur was Olives daughter that would be some messed up stuff, I would be wondering why Doris the wife would buy a blanket for christmas for her husband and daughter to share in bed🤣🤣🤣. The bald guy is Olives husband and Stan and Olive is doris mother .

I couldn't stand watching this in the 1970s (I was 8) and it hasn't improved with age.

The guy playing the bus inspector also played the part of 'Smiler' in the record- breaking enduring British sitcom, 'Last of the Summer Wine'. Smiler was even more miserable than han Blakey, but hilarious imo. R.I.P. Stephen.

Yes, he was also in the on the buses comedy spin off series "Don't drink the water" Where Blakey retires to live in Spain with his sister Dorothy (played by Pat Coombs). It lasted for two series, in 1974 and 1975. Created by the same people that did on the buses.
