God this is the first hfy story that got me down this rabbit hole. I love stories like this because no matter how much we hide it a small piece of us always hate something no matter how miniscule it is and those Zenos just brought it out 10 times fold. I would almost feel sorry for them but they started it first and especially made me mad when they decided to just let the humans that were infected with the disease die. It pissed me off even more when they said they found it amusing.

The question the narrator asked, also demonstrates why hate exists, to counter predation, we climbed our food chain by having the predators that preyed on us, and successfully caused the extinction of many, and those that survived developmented an instinctual fear of humans

And yet this is the same species that will pack bond with a cleaning robot. Humanity has many redeeming qualities just as powerful as hate. The problem is that hate has the longest range. The zenos kept humanity as isolated as they could. They attacked from afar. That was their biggest mistake.

@@Zren89 I like to imagine an omake to this story where one of the species out there did manage to get close to humans. Probably another species that got sidelined by the powers that be. Maybe they were even fellow slaves. Now humanity considers them to be one of their own. To stay focused on the theme the side story focuses on this species bewilderment as humans hate others on their behalf. I imagine this line after the galactic government sanctions them or something; "Just whatever we do, under no circumstances, nobody tells the humans about this!"
