I like ya videos Rob, you can see the excitement in you when you’re into something, trawlers are trawling to close to the shore these days imo !! But I would have told that skipper to back off or go round as you were there first so tough ship 🤔 have a great Chris o and looking forward to many more of ya vid’s 👍

Great video and ling Rob. The netting of wrecks has really increased the last few years and its becoming obvious now the effects its having on fish stocks paticular pollack. They have almost destroyed cod stocks by over fishing and now Pollack are going the same way. Netting a wreck over winter targeting Pollack that move to the wrecks in preparation for spawning. They are wiping out complete breeding stocks of pollack and they will now go the same way as cod. All we will have left soon are dogfish
@fishingsalcombe6 ай бұрын
Completely agree mate. The one I saw wasn’t even a local boat. It had come all the way from Newhaven so my guess is he’d already raped his local wrecks and therefore travelled to take anything from several wrecks here. They had been fishing well, giving sport for many anglers as well as serving a living for charter boats and commercial rod and line boats. They’ll now take ages to recover from netting 😡😡

Great video Rob; its not easy doing the whole thing yaself, I know. A nice ling however saves the day. And with regard to those net fishermen....well, hey they do need to earn a living, then again they are often better skilled at something else... which probably doesn't pay the wine bill. Keep up the good work and hope to see you achieving more pluses in the next videos.

Thanks mate! I prefer my white fish after a spell in the freezer but I’ll see if I can put something on when I use it. Ling is very versatile though. I’ll treat the fillet like cod, the loin like monk and the belly will go for fish pie or soup 👍👍

Well done despite the setback mate. I saw on the local SW Spotlight news last night that we are now on the verge of a complete Pollack ban possibly for as early as next year. So once again sustainable rod and line fishing will be paying the price for indiscriminate netting on an industrial scale. It does rather boil my p*ss! Have a great Xmas and tight lines in 2024
@fishingsalcombe6 ай бұрын
Thanks mate, I’d not heard that about the pollack - I’ll look into that. It annoys me that netters completely decimate the stocks but rod and line fishing, which is perfectly sustainable, pays the price. I’ll have to experiment with cooking pout!🤣. Tight lines mate 👍👍🎣🎣

very good video and a nice ling we get the commercial.s trying to bully there way onto wrecks a very sharp knife usually sorts there buoys out at the time or later on most seem to think they own the sea need a nice gaff instead of the net for any ling your going to keep tight lines and all the best Alain

I really sympathise with you. Commercial fishing should be 3 miles off any shore and any rock above water, certain reefs and 500 metres off any wreck within 20 miles of any shore. I saw a commercial take over 50 bass hand lining off a well known reef so who is doing the real damage? They just fish it until its clean

Just subbed, nice channel. As already said, I'd have stayed on the wreck and made them wait. All the decent inshore marks local to me have nets or pots on them. I'd be interested in a tackle rundown. Are you using ugly stiks and what test?
@fishingsalcombe6 ай бұрын
Thanks for subscribing! One rod is an Ugly Stick GX2, the other is a Penn, both 12-20lb. I’ve got a bit more detail on my rods & tackle on this video. Cheers 👍👍🎣 kzbin.info/www/bejne/l2XPdaGdgs2gg5Ysi=NUhWlvGNbzDC12Ew

@fishingsalcombe6 ай бұрын
Thanks Mike, I chose to two piece purely for comfort. It’s great winter gear with fantastic protection but it’s also great to shed the jacket if the wind isn’t blowing. I’m not convinced about the claim as a rescue system and on many days I would find the one piece too warm. 👍👍

The environmental vandalism caused by commercial fishing is a disgrace. It is illegal for farmers to exhibit similar practices in the countryside. Why should the sea be treated any differently?
@fishingsalcombe6 ай бұрын
I definitely agree that certain types of commercial fishing are archaic. Indiscriminate and damaging methods such as gill nets and beam trawling definitely need a re-think👍
