I never knew they popped up in the marlborough sounds, pretty cool shore fishery you have there. I'd love to catch one of those.

something a bit different, catching some nice broad squid on video, they look like great eating too, good to see Ralph out there enjoying himself..
@Kevinohanlons3 жыл бұрын
Hopefully I can find some down this way

@@Kevinohanlons I know the broad fin is a prolific fishery up in the north Island, My partner a friend with her husband being a relatively keen fisherman for 'squid' & lives down this way so I will let you know if I know more on that..

Hey Kev, good to a new video. Nice wee lab too. Looks like he loves to swim like Meg did. How do you gut those things?
@Kevinohanlons3 жыл бұрын
Remove their heads, and pull the innards out. The hardest part is skinning them lol

I know that it’s not common for fishermen to share their spots, but if I could be so cheeky to ask, what beach is this at? As I’ve never caught squid in the Marlborough sound before and I’ve loved and fished here my whole life. Really enjoyed the video!
@Kevinohanlons3 жыл бұрын
Haha, sorry mate I can't share this spot, but what I will say is that if you find good weedy areas in the Queen charlotte sound squid will be present. Sheltered and clear water is key!
@Murphm83 жыл бұрын
@@Kevinohanlons cheers that’s awesome to know! Will they be present all year round do you think? Thanks for the reply!

Where are you bro me and my partner do heaps of fishing in the sounds of the beach and never once caught a squid would love to know where you are
@Kevinohanlons3 жыл бұрын
They are anywhere with plenty of weed. Even the kenepuru has them. Find the weed and you'll find squid
@visual_legacy57203 жыл бұрын
Have you ever tried fishing for them locally around chch?
@Kevinohanlons3 жыл бұрын
Not yet, but I am intending to have a crack!

I've never cooked squid personally before but when I have had it I had found them rather chewy
@Kevinohanlons4 жыл бұрын
Yeah they can be if over cooked

Look up simple squid recipes, most say maybe 45seconds when cooked in rings or thin strip's, salt and pepper calamari is nice
