Gary Bartz just kills on Live Evil . Saw his group . Incredable Ben Riley story about Trane , wanting to go back inside , dying before he could . Albert Daily is as good as any piano player from his lifetime. Never got the recognition he deserved .

What a great conversation: informative, inspiring, and funny as hell! Do I see a bass clarinet behind Mr. Bartz?! (Also, nice to hear Sol Fromkin’s name, brings back fond memories!) 🎷❤️

Fantastic interview with Gary, Bob. That concert that you mentioned where John Coltrane and Monk had a reunion of sorts was at the Cobo Arena in Detroit, Michigan on January 22, 1966. There's a photo from that concert with Coltrane, Charlie Rouse, Ben Riley, Monk, and Reggie Workman all standing onstage together (Workman is hidden in the photo). I think the idea to reunite Trane with Monk was George Wein's idea. Thanks again.

First of all, thanks for writing in Jack. Glad you enjoyed the podcast. By the way, please tell your friends, because it always helps in this "social media world" to have more subscribers & followers. Regarding the Coltrane Monk stuff, the concert that you mention may very well be the one that Coltrane was referring to when talking to Ben. I seem to recall a mention of another concert in a bio of Trane, referring to a concert in Europe somewhat closer to the date of Trane's death on July 13, 1967.
