Konstantin, I've really been enjoying your videos. I have had a long love affair with German wines, as I was stationed in Darmstadt between 1997-2000. What makes the Pfalz special to me is Weissburgunder. I first fell in love with a 2009 Meßmer Im Goldnen Jost GG back in 2012, and was crushed when Terry Theiss stopped importing it to the US. Since that time I've shifted over to the Seehof Weissburgunder Trocken 'R' as my "go-to". The German wine I wish I could more easily access here in the US is Weltner's "Hoheleite" Sylvaner GG. It's such a special wine. Thank you for taking the time to produce these special & informative videos.

What a great video. I traveled through this region several years back and the wine was stunning. The only thing that you didn’t capture was how beautiful some of the small towns along the weinstrasse really are. I can’t remember all the towns I passed through but Maikammer and Saint Martin come to mind. I can’t recommend this region enough if you want to travel and combine lovely wine with scenic towns and countryside.

The Pfalz is by far my favorite wine growing region to visit. I live an hours drive from the Mosel / Saar, Pfalz and Nahe. Each region is very unique, but the Pfalz is special and just has that little something that always pulls me east.

My family comes from the Pfalz. Ruppertsberg and Königsbach an der Weinstraße to be more precise. They had their own winery near Deidesheim and also a restaurant in Landau. I love revisiting that part of beautiful Deutschland. So, what makes the Pfalz special for me is the fact that it is Heimat through and through.

Great video. My wife and I really enjoy German wines, but don't see enough from the Pfalz here in the Midwest, US. I find it interesting that while several of the winemakers mentioned terroir as important to Pfalz winemaking, depth and variety was how you decided to characterize the region. I wonder if, at some levels, understanding the Pfalz necessitates focusing on villages. Forst, for instance, is known for its salty dry Rieslings that show terroir beautifully, at least in the few bottles I've been privileged to try recently.

It is worth mentioning that chancellor Kohl introduced some of his illustrious guests to "Pfälzer Saumagen", of course elevated to a whole new level be Michelin star gastronomy. I know this region quite well but never had "Saumagen" but I can imagine that a mineral Pfälzer Riesling will cut through these heavy dishes very easily. Another bonmot of the late chancellor: "Essen ist die Erotik des Alters."

Ohh I absolutely love this. I myself live in the region and explore new wineries. Wolf, the first winery in the video I discovered during COVID where not Dennis but his Dad greeted us telling us he had "Feierabend" german for his shift ended. He then said he had "Feierabend" or "his shift ended" for the rest of his life - joking about being retired. Real nice guy that gave his traditional business to his son who is now doing a more modern taste on wine which he learned in wineries all over Europe. This reflects most of the region where the last generation who studied their skill in and around the region such as Dennis's dad in Baden are letting the new generation take over who instead study wine all over the world being taught by the best wineries. In this video, you can really see the young generation taking over making some of the best wines. It is a great region where you can explore new wines endlessly and pretty much can reach every winery using public transport or bike.

I've had the spätburgunder/pinot noir from Koehler Ruprecht and Becker, and they are both great! The Koehler Ruprecht spätburgunder has a high acidity for a spätburgunder, and the Becker is more mellow and balanced.

Chapeau Konstantin! Yet another mouth watering video - thank you! Nicely selected wineries. Relative to what makes the Pfalz special: It has become a benchmark for other wine regions. The first time I heard about Rebholz, for example, was by Markus Brackwieser from Gumphof in the Eisacktal 🇮🇹 He spoke very highly about them! The Juelg winery can also contribute awesome stories about this German French wine region. They used to have Chardonnay in their own vineyard just across the border in 🇫🇷 well before it was listed in 🇩🇪 And simply sold it (illegally😉) as Pinot Blanc 😎

Konstatin this is a very nice video, will look for some of these wines online for sure. It is good to see that the videos you make are fun to you, please keep doing what makes you happy. I still enjoy your blind tasting videos the most however, as there are not many people on youtube that are brave enough to try it besides you and winekings. There is a real lack of content online covering that and you can fill that niche. What I would personally love is if you could make a video explaining what aromas and foods illicit certain typical tasting notes in wine and how they are found in a blind tasting. You could do a many part series where each time you challenge yourself at the end to prove a point. Would be the ultimate flex lol

The Pfalz is my favourite wine region in Germany by far! The wines are serious and structured but unlike many other regions in Germany they have great ripe fruit and are really generous. Last weekend I was at a tasting and the Riesling and Weißburgunder there were some of the best wines with the 2017 Riesling from Weingut Wolf in Birkweiler the single best white wine. I also absolutely love both the Grauburgunder and the Riesling from A Christmann that are sensational with goose rillettes and tiger prawns respectively. As for the Chardonnay from there I´m not keen. They tend to still have too much unresolved diacetyl.

During a wine fair, I tasted a German white without overly lychee or petrol flavour and it was a Pfeffingen Scheurebe from Pfalz. On other occasions, the Pfalz reds were not as acidic and linear. So I was always looking out for Pfalz wines however availability is limited in Asia. Learning that it is a huge wine region for everyday wines does take some intrigue out of it. However, being a warmer region in Germany, there must be great finds abound.

Great feature video. Thank you. I used to travel to the Pfalz regularly 30+ years ago - Neustadt am de Weinstrasse is our twin town. Back then all the wines seemed to be very strictly controlled within the QbA system, and 'mit Pradikat' wines told you very specifically what residual sugar to expect. From what you say it seems these strict definitions have been relaxed. Would that be correct?

It’s too bad we don’t get any Pfalzweine here, because I’m really tempted to try one after watching your video! I guess I’ll just have to return to Deutschland one of these days… By the way, small nitpick: you should probably invest in a wireless lavalier mic for these bits (which I hope will become more and more common, as you are recognized as the real German wine ambassador that you are!). The audio quality drop from your usual cellar/studio to outside was pretty jarring. Sorry, I also do some video, and those kinds of things stand out to me.

So what's the ultimate goal of your KZbin presence? Do you want to create your own school? Establish an online wine-loving community? Or just document the wines you love? I was thinking if you had a subscription membership service where you had a Zoom meeting each month and tasted wines that all your subscribers could also buy in their locations, at least members in Europe & US, then that would be something I'd pay a monthly subscription fee for, to drink along with a real Master of Wine and his global audience while tasting and noting the same wine with the rest of the audience while at home. Just a thought! Love the videos you make. Cheers!
