What's kind of interesting is this isn't exactly new culturally. We as a culture always seem to be producing nostalgia from 20-30 years ago. I believe that it is an association between childhood and easy and goodness being made by content producers who are now in their 20's-40's. It's the same thing that explains grease or Happy Days.
