I love your idea to reflect on Shopenhauer very much! He was right about many things, I think. For example, that Dante had his images from his Hell from our actual world around us...etc.

This is the only book I can ever remember reading in its entirety, when it was part of this collection of books I got years ago called 'Penguin Great Ideas', which you need to track down, cuz it's an amazing looking collection. I've only read that one book from it. Had to compare his well known Pessimism with my own. Wow, he was so spot on with everything he said in it. Definitely very similar thinkers we are. It was the perfect length book to read. No messing about. I'll hopefully read the rest of those books when I can be bothered..

Just ordered a collection of Schopenhauer‘s essays based on your review. His kind of pessimism is right up my alley, which I realize is kind of sad. But yeah.

Thank you for letting me know! He often gives me a lot to think about, I hope you find him rewarding as well. Also, Schopenhauer was deeply influenced by Buddhist texts, many of which are also worth checking out. Best regards,

Schopenhauer's quotes are the best. Larry David would definitely have gotten along with him. He says what most are scared to say, but what some know to be true.

I think he’s one of my favorite philosophers ever! However, he was quite sexist though, some even pointed out that he’s sexist par excellence. Great video, enjoyed your summary of the essay!

Somehow I'm not shocked that he lived along, that amount of pessimism must be hard to live with!

SHOW-penhauer, dude, not SHOP-enhauer. Have you read "The Metaphysics of the Love of the Sexes" and "Death and its Relation to the Indestructibility of Our True Nature"? Highly recommended. Your chocolate chip cookie comment was hilarious, btw. Pessimism makes me happy. :-) Compassion, patience, forbearance-from the guy who kicked his housekeeper (landlady?) down the stairs, hahaha. Schopenhauer had a rotten Mom, who was a mediocre author, btw. Explains pretty much everything, except his genius.

Thank you for the correction, I often flub authors' names. I'll have to look at them, off hand I can't remember. Haha thanks you, I have a real soft spot for Schopenhauer, sometime I'd like to read a biography on him. Best regards,
