I really like the ON1 2023 software. I appreciate how you put it all together and show different approaches. I learn something every time I watch it.

When you used the white mask - couldn't you have done the same using the Develop mode? Looking forward to you deeper dives into this product. Steve
@JimNix2 жыл бұрын
Hi Steve and yes for sure you can do that in Develop. But I like to do this final "touch up" global adjustment using the local adjustment tool. That way, if I don't like it, I didn't have any impact on my previous Develop settings - they are still intact. Thanks.

I had Photoshop and Lightroom. But that's way too big for my 10 pictures... (and a bit too expensive in the subscription). On1 Photo RAW 2023 - That makes me happy! Thank you for your videos! Greetings from Germany

Thanks for another informative video on this software Jim. It's so much easier to get ones head around how to use the various options in this program when being demonstrated. I have downloaded the user guide but although it gives how to instructions I find it's often difficult to follow.

thanks for watching Ken and I do hope it helps, and yeah I'm a visual learner so I prefer to see and then try to do as well - thanks!

Jim, I too would prefer the Local Adjustment Exposure setting's default position be set at 0, instead of -1, as is now. It's a very minor issue in my view, but it's a little something ON1 folks ought to do in my view. It would sensibly and logically set as 0 ALL default settings in the Local Adjustment tab. Thanks for explaining the utility of changing to a white mask in the Local Adjustment tab.

Thanks Andre and glad to know it's not just me missing something obvious about the -1 setting. That is annoying, and I almost never need that setting. I definitely prefer to start at 0. And thanks for watching too!

I also find the -1 exposure default setting extremely annoying. I don't think I've ever wanted to reduce exposure by exactly that amount and if ever I do want to, I'm perfectly as capable of using that slider as I am any of the myriad others. A minor issue, as you say but I'd be interested to hear the ON1boffins' justification for sticking with it.
@JimNix2 жыл бұрын
@@robcoates4394 yeah it's literally never been the setting I needed LOL

A more sensible default for local adjustment would be to set Exposure to 0 and switch on red mask preview, so that you can see where you are going to apply a local setting.

which is the best between on1 and Luminar Neo?
@JimNix Жыл бұрын
Great question and the answer is that it depends. Your best bet is to download a trial of each and try them. It depends on what you want and need from an editor. Both have a ton of capability, both incorporate AI to varying degrees, and both can help you craft amazing images. Doing a full list of differences would take quite a while. Test them out and see how they work for you. Thanks.

Thanks, as always, Jim. Your tutorials are outstanding. We appreciate the time and expertise you share. Quick observation; I'm still disappointed with the quality of the AI masking in ON1 PR 2023 in some images. I'm interested what other users are experiencing?
@JimNix2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching Bid! I appreciate the kind words. I find the AI Masking is pretty good most of the time but def not perfect (nor is it perfect in other apps). It will improve over time, too. And of course you can always refine if you need to. It def saves me a lot of time, even if I have to adjust it somewhat. Thanks for watching.

Is it just me or are the AI selection tools really really not great at actually selecting meaningful selections? I shoot lots of portraits and when I want to quickly select backgrounds or the person, the AI selections are not really good. I always have to try to refine them and and I find the refining edges of the selections very cumbersome as well. Plus the paintbrush tools are quirky and not very responsive. They lag behind what I'm selecting and make accurate selections around edges of people and objects very time consuming and difficult. I REALLY wanted to like the AI selections but I think they have a ways to go before they are truly useful and efficient. Sorry for the rant. Maybe I just need to spend more time getting to know the program. But coming from LR, and Photoshop, the tools here seem a bit cumbersome. But I remain hopeful since I love the overall idea of the program for editing.
