I saw that look and body language by Drew Allar on ND's penultimate drive as well. I even said to my wife that he looks like a guy who has already lost, not a guy eager to see a stop and get a chance to win it. It wasn't even nervousness, that was despair, and once it kicked in he was done. You don't just flip that switch back to confidence and suddenly play with a chip again. Glad someone else noticed that.

I have been a ND fan since the early 90s when I got to take an OV as a baseball and track athlete. I cant remember a time since Lou Holtz was there that the team has gone into big games where I half expected them to get blown out. This is a completely different team and culture. It is incredible.

That 2nd PI I'm torn as a notre dame fan, you have to get your head around, but at the same time you're asking a guy to turn his head around when he is worried about the guy going up and over him to catch it. I think there needs to a conversation about incidental contact on that type of play, if a ball is underthrown and the wr has to stop and come back to the ball the db should be allowed incidental contact and a chance to get his head around after being stopped short. Still all 8 had to do was turn his head and look at the crowd and you can't call it

Im so hype for the defense next year. 3 out of 4 db's return. Lose one LB, kiser, which i love the captain but the other 3 guys and madden are physically better. And the d line are losing their tackles but they just answered that in the portal and they get their defensive ends back. And Young is a year older and add weight and power to that 6'7 frame. The defense could be even better.

All they had to do was run the ball and play for field goal position - that’s it. 2 min drill, no huddle, 10 - 15 scripted plays, and run the ball. Worst case, no FG and you’re in OT. But nope…

That first defensive holding call was BS, and here’s why I think so. The refs had been letting both teams play super physical on the outside. They let the PSU corners hold and literally climb over the ND WR’s and TE’s up until that point (and after that point). Two previous 3rd downs had been broken up by PSU by what would’ve been penalties had they held them to the standard that ND was held to later in the game. Even the announcers said “the officiating crew is letting both sides play very physical on the outside, the way it should be in the playoffs”. Just to call the exact thing both teams had been doing all game, after it results in an INT?!? Secondary guys play to the physicality that the refs allow, so once the tone of the game is set, it’s BS to then shift off of the way you’ve been calling it all night, especially when it’s at a critical moment. Both flags were dropped after the INT’s were secured. The 2nd call was a phantom call and everyone knows it. But I’d contend both were trash. Can’t allow one team to play physical ALL GAME on the outside, but call the other side when they play to that same physicality. Calling a game consistently and both ways is essential, and anyone with a pulse saw that PSU was consistently benefiting from spots and flags all game. Regardless, ND still collected that pelt! Go Irish!!!☘️
