Cal-Miami is going to be close like you say I think, but I don't know if I believe almost anyone's defense is good enough to stop Miami to that degree. They just played their absolute worst, Ward had the game people were worried he could have, and Miami still put up 38 with 500+ yards. Based on absolutely nothing I have a feeling Miami, this year at least, is the team that's going to be pissed off about their performance. Fans and everyone outside of the locker room can be glad we escaped with a win, but I think they're going to be pissed. Ward's not likely to have another 3 turnover game immediately. Besides stopping themselves, through 5 I still haven't seen a team stop Miami's offense other than Miami's offense. 31-20 is a little low. I think Miami finds a way to get back over 40 again. Defense depends on who's back for them. They lost a TON up front through the VaTech game at different points (Barrow, Baron, and Alston all went down at some point from a unit that was already missing Bain). Sounds like they're getting quite a bit of that back for the game, nothing serious. If they are I'd expect the run defense to be much better than it was Friday night. If they're not could be a late night of Pac 12 esque scoring.

@@evskii. Why not? We don't have any head to head matchups to point to, but Miami and Bama have a common opponent in USF. To my eyes Miami handled them much more thoroughly than Alabama did. As much as we can say Miami hasn't faced a defense like team X's, you can easily say none of those team's defenses have faced an offense quite like Miami's. Pre-season I'm not making this call, but through 5 games seeing Ward with accounting for 2,000 yards and 20 TDs (passing and rushing combined) changes the outlook for really any team that dude's on. Miami sans Ward, you're right there's not enough there. They might be a top 20, top 15 team, closer to an LSU or a USC, but with Ward. He's having a special year, if he's healthy yeah I'd put him in a shootout against those teams.

@jpDragna common opponents is a horrendous way to measure teams unless they played literally the same schedule. 1 off games happen all the time. Teams have bad nights. Teams play bama and GA like it's their national championship because they're the gold standard of CFB. Miami can't hang with the big dogs yet, they won't be the most athletic team on the field when they play one of them.

Imna Vols fan and im more worried about this arkansas gane than any other team we have played so far. Arky is better than any team we have played and our O-line isn't good. I hope we show up with a better offense and woth our A-game.

Real talk. It will obviously hit 3 of the 4 if not all 4 points that follow: the October 5, 2024 College GameDay will be 1) the lowest TV ratings for gameday in many years, 2) the lowest amount of away fan travel to the GameDay site, 3) the lowest game attendance for a GameDay game, and 4) the most egregious and obvious reason that college game day is covering Miami at Cal. College football as a whole is desperate to try to show there are two potential ACC teams that could actually compete if they get a playoff bid. They are already having to blur stats and records

Miami just had a close scare with Virginia tech so I think Miami's going to go to California and beat the brakes off of Cal and pick up right where they left off with the first four games as blowouts
