Actually Onam is celebrated within the (Hindu) homes with traditional rituals. Thiruvonam is the main onam. The date may differ according to malayalam calendar. (Between Aug 15 and sept 15) The official celebrations in Thiruvananthapuram start 2 days before thiruvonam and ends on 6th or 7th day
