As a mom who has camped for 43 years my advice is to cook as much as you can at home. I don’t ever cook bacon or sausage in my camper it’s too greasy. I cook at home and just heat up in the camper. The kids are going to be extra hungry I promise. We ate a big breakfast, smaller lunch and big dinner. Extra snacks, sandwiches, and lots of liquids. Have fun. We’re headed to Maine next Friday.

Prices are definitely going up! We just got back from a 1 week RV trip, and yes, prepping food at home is the biggest help! We don't like to bring hundreds of disposable water bottles, so we have some 5 gallon jugs that we bring and then a smaller jug with a spout...we refill the smaller jug using the big jugs and the kids can all refill their water bottles with the spout.

Ziploc bags are a real great storage option for RV fridges. For EX: Putting the spaghetti in ziplocs and freezing it flat then when you take it with you you won't have a dish to clean and it will save fridge space because you can stack them. We went camping alot and always ate the same things that were easy and things my dad could cook outside on a griddle or grill. Cooking in an RV makes it hot. Breakfast burritos, French toast, burgers, grilled meats, hotdogs things like that are quick and easy.

I know I've commented this on a different video, but often the grocery stores only allow a certain percentage of the inventory to go for the online orders. This is to account for people who don't actually pick up items. For example they may get 20 bags of chips in, but only let 6 be used for online orders.
@SRose-vp6ew
@SRose-vp6ew 3 жыл бұрын
So it's like the online cart hold issue stores also have. If you put something in your online cart it's just like you put something in your cart. But the limit means she just needs to make two orders. They likely limit per-guest to also avoid hoarders who will let the food spoil and like you said not even pick it up.

It's hard to beat the yeti for performance, but if it's out of budget there are other high performance coolers out there that'll keep ice for up to a week or so. Having the ability to keep stuff frozen for that long without using power is a game changer!

Chicken taquitos with low carb tortillas. Makes a good lunch that everyone could eat. Ingredients 2 cups cooked shredded chicken (I use rotisserie) 6 ounces cream cheese , softened 1/4 cup salsa , your favorite kind 1/4 cup sour cream 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese 1 cup baby spinach leaves , chopped 1/4 teaspoon cumin 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder 1/4 teaspoon chili powder salt and freshly ground black pepper for taste 15-20 corn or flour tortillas For serving: guacamole, sour cream, salsa, hot sauce Instructions Add cream cheese, salsa and sour cream to a mixing bowl and stir until smooth. Add remaining ingredients (except the tortillas) and toss to combine. Taste and add more seasoning, if needed. For corn tortillas, heat a non-stick griddle over medium high heat. Cook tortillas for about 15 - 30 seconds on each side until soft and pliable. Remove tortillas to a plate covered with tinfoil to keep them warm and pliable. Place a large spoonful of filling in a line along each tortilla and roll tightly. Secure with a toothpick if needed. Baked Taquitos: Preheat oven to 425 degrees F. Spray the tops of the tacos with cooking spray , or brush them lightly with oil. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until the shells are crispy. Fried Taquitos: Add about 1 1/2 inches of oil to a large skillet and heat to medium-high. Once hot (the tortillas should sizzle immediately when added to the oil). Fry the taquitos in small batches, for a few seconds on each side, rotating them as they cook, until they are golden and crispy on all sides. Place them on a paper towel lined plate. Serve taquitos with guacamole, salsa and sour cream. Substitute regular tortillas for low-carb tortillas 4carb.

I’m from a family of seven. We hiked and camped all over the California mountains. My favorite meal was prep and frozen ahead of time…you use several layers of foil per personal package Earl. We used stew beef , potatoes, carrots, green beans and onions and filled each pack with some of each ingredient, but we added butter and I’m sure you could use coconut oil. Wrap each package tightly and well using several layers of foil. The beauty of this meal was we put them down in the coals from the campfire for an hour or two. So Good! Another Treat is to leave a banana in the skin and slice lengthwise place some marshmallows and chocolate bar pieces or chips and wrap them in foil then again you place tem in the coals for 10-15 minutes or so for a super yummy desert! Have a Wonderful vacation🙏🏻🕊✝️💐♥️

We tent camp and use a 60 litre 12v fridge/freezer. I recommend trying to meal plan without relying too much on the fridge or freezer. You’ll find you need what little room you have for milk cheese etc. We take shelf stable milk so only one container needs to be cold at any time. Here, we can ask our butchers to cryovac our meat which makes it last longer, and takes up less room.

Personnally, I prefer the opposite approach for rv-ing; shop as you go every 3-4 days (or maybe once a week if you are stretching it.) I really can't imagine fitting the sheer volume of food you need for your size family for two weeks. Omg. If you're using coolers, definately start with frozen food as much as possible. Soups, chilis, rice, premarinated meat, burger patties frozen flat in ziploc bags stack really well. Remember that the more frozen packed volume in your cooler, the longer it will stay cold. You can expect 3 days of cold easy, up to four if you pack well. Also, I use frozen jugs of water instead of ice. They take up 1/3 of the space, but they last longer and most importantly they don't leak water so everything is floating in grossness as ice melts. If you really want to use ice, blocks last longer than cubes. Definately have a seperate cooler for drinks since it will be getting opened often (and do use cubes in it!) I prefer to cook outside on butane burners. Rv's are enclosed places and stink up easily. Definately for meats, you don't want all your clothes stinking of grease and bacon. Also things that make steam, like boiling pasta. And pack extra! Outdoorsy things always seems to make everyone twice as hungry. Cooking stuff over a fire is a thrill for older kids: preboil hotdogs and poke on a stick. bananas with marshmallow and chocolate chips inside the peel, wrapped in foil. baked potatoes (poke first) And toast. oh gosh, campfire toast. Yum. Wow, I think this is the longest comment I've ever made on YT!! But I have years of experience camping and rving with kids. Also, now I'm hungry for fire foods. You got this, you'll have a blast even if the bread gets smooshed.

I cook ground beef, turkey and sausage (separately) and freeze in ziplocks. I make some with taco seasoning. You could use it for nachos or tacos, chili, sloppy joes, meat sauce for spaghetti, breakfast burritos, etc. I also do shredded chicken in the slow cooker or instant pot with a jar of salsa and freeze that as well. My number one thing I do to save myself some sanity is cooked meat in the freezer.

As you are a large milk using family for the R.V. buy long life milk, ghee - you can use it instead of butter and take a recipe for damper - Australian Outback bread it is quick, easy, no fuss you can make loaves in bread pans. Bread buns, snakes on sticks - you wrap a piece of rolled out damper in a 1/2 to 3/4" rope, cut a piece off and wrap it around a stick and cook it over a open fire like you do over there for marsh mellows. It is basically for savoury self raising flour or plain/all purpose flour, salt. You can add dry powdered milk that gives a nicer depth. If you want it flavoured add herbs, spices or curry powder. For sweet add sugar, powdered milk sultanas/golden raisins mixed dried fruit. You can also make baps - damper rolls stuffed with meat fillings or pie fruit fillings - just use savoury or sweet damper as your base and does not take long to cook. Serve the sweet with cocky's delight - golden syrup. Cocky is a nick name for Out back sheep and cattle farmers.

@@gramnenew6196 Hood River is such a cool little nook of the world. I hope the locals are into this business and its growth. When I visited there regularly for work it was the locals vs the incoming windsurfers. Real estate prices were skyrocketing from all of the transplants, making the locals priced out more generations staying there. Or, something like that :). A few years ago the downtown was thriving with posh boutiques, yum restaurants, and cool outdoor recreation stores. Good video. I don't like freezing whole meals either. Some meals frozen loose texture and freshness. Things like pasta, fresh veggies etc. Be well and looking forward to your RVing trip.

The spaghetti noodles you could cook now or just before you go and just keep the cooked noodles in a zip lock bag or in your case a couple of bags,and put in a cooler,then when ready to use just throw them in boiling water till warm,this way there already done,also the waffles just consolidate throw box in garbage and put the waffles in a plastic zip lock bag,the boxes take space and the large large zip lock bags are life saver

Our family loves Tatertot casserole when we camp in an RV. It’s just cooked ground breakfast sausage, frozen tatertots, shredded cheddar cheese, and eggs throw it all in a casserole dish top with the cheese and bake until done.

The reason the app says they're out of a product when you find it in store is because when you made the order it was out of stock, but by the time you walk in a truck has come and the product has been worked

When we first started RV'ing, granted it was just the 2 of us, but 3 things were my Godsend. 1- take the calendar and write down each main meal for each day. Now this is flexible menu but you'll be prepared for each meal. 2 & 3- the crockpot and IP were my greatest allies! Plan meals that can cook all day or fast in the IP. Hope this helps some. We didn't have a full size fridge so we had to compact our meals. Also premade mixes that store in ziploc bags help.

I use the crockpot a lot when we are in our camper. Doesn’t make it hot in there. I make crockpot lasagna turkey sloppy Joe’s. I’ll throw a pork loin in it and then shred and add bbq sauce and make like a pulled pork sandwich

hint for spaghetti when cooking in the mountains....cook your spaghetti noodles before you go camping...high altitude takes forever to boil water. cook your noodles to al dente and put in gallon ziplock bags...it takes alot less time ..works great. when living in colorado i learned the hard way with the altitude. we always had spaghetti in the high country.

Just a little food for thought, or the RV😊 I like to pre-cook a lot of spaghetti to just al dente and then put it in Ziploc bags and refrigerate it. That way it’s pretty much fully cooked and stirred into a hot spaghetti sauce it taste great and you don’t have to steam up your camper.

You can test the waters of canning even in the fall/winter season by using frozen fruits like peaches or strawberries. That way next year when you do can in season, youll know exactly what to do. First go to Walmart and get yourself a blue speckled canning pot with jar rack. You can get your jars and lids cheaper at a dollar store. You'll need a big plastic bowl with sealable top. Get your fruit, sugar and a lemon or orange. Thaw fruit and cut up. Take your fruit and put it in plastic bowl. Add lemon juice or zest for strawberries or add orange juice and zest for peaches. Then add your sugar. Stir around and put top on it and leave on kitchen counter. I always did this before bed and let it set out overnight. The juice and zest of the orange or lemon keeps the fruit from turning brown. Leaving it setting out draws the natural juices out of the fruit and you won't have to add water. The next morning cook fruit over low heat simmering and keep stirring until thick some. Do this while your jars are processing. I always washed my jars first in dishwasher on hot water cycle. Boil your lids and caps. Once fruit is thick, fill your jars up to half an inch from top, wipe off any spill from top with hot rag. Put your caps and lids immediately on. Sit on towel spaced apart on kitchen counter. Once they "pop", they're processed. Some people put the filled jars back in the canner and boil for a few minutes to make sure they seal good. It's easy to do but the only hard thing is that you can't leave your stove. If you don't keep stirring your fruit, it can burn and stick real quick. Remember a low and slow simmer. No need for pectin with preserves. That's mainly for jellies.

We are considering living on the road! I have been researching RVs and financing because we are not fortunate enough to be able to buy one outright just now, but we can afford a payment option. My husband would get on a traveling roofing crew and they always need people! Something he has been wanting to do for years! So I am considering this option so watching you guys helps out and gives me some ideas

Sarah, do you take a crockpot when you go camping? If so, you can put together some freezer meals in a ziploc bag and stick it in your crockpot. After a day of swimming, hiking, those meals will make it easy for you.

A couple of our favorite camping meals for you. Camping is not our healthiest meals, but we only eat them while camping which adds to our adventure. Walking tacos and chilies boats pretty much the same concept. Everyone gets a individuals lunch size fritos. Cut your bags open and add chilies and cheese onions, what ever you like.. Wal,kng tacos single serving fritos open your.bag and add ground shredded chicken, I use rotisary chickens from Sam's. I do the shreading at home they you layer your toppings just like you would a taco. Everything goes in the trash easy clean up. I also prepare at home sliced roast beer of chicken for BBQ sandwiches. I wrap it in heavy duty foil freeze just warm it up for a quick fast clean up. I try to prepare and freeze the meats so they keep things In the ice chest cool until we eat them..Those are some of our favorites. Enjoy.

we camp 4 to 5 times a year. we keep a cooler outside of camper with ice and water bottles or juice boxes because it takes up way too much room in fridge. we cook ahead and freeze flat in ziplock bags. taking everything out of packages helps as well. also later on think about getting a berkey for your rv. we camp alot near the ocean and the water is very saline tasting. doesn't make for good coffee!!! hahaha so we first got a water filter that attaches to water hose and then to your inlet valve. but we found at the ocean sites we needed more so got the smallest berky. there are several really good rv sites on fb for storage ideas etc... but you won't know till you live with it for a while what works. camping makes traveling so much easier for us with food allergies and to take our animals!

I think our favorite rv meal prep is shredded chicken. We can make tacos, tostados, chicken salad, creamy pesto pasta or a simple fried rice. Also par cooking bacon is super helpful. We just throw it in the microwave for 30 sec to finish it off. If we do spaghetti, I will brown Italian sausage ahead of time to cut down on the cooking mess. Another easy peasy meal is Naan bread pizzas and caesar salads.

We always have a cooler. And you can start with a bag of ice or take some from your home freezer. Then freeze water bottles in the freezer overnight to replenish the cooler. We store all drinks and melon in the cooler. It really saves space. Remember, your freezer will make ice. No store needed
