This version of a evil Peter Pan is a sorry miserable sad excuse for a father who is so desperate for freedom and power heuristics on sun for it and they know lower form than that instead of an honest life you chose to get it the easy way the selfish way he gave up his own son he's not even sorry for doing it he's a seductive psychopath

Pan is obviously a psychopath and a terrible father, but this is a very rare instance of this particular show effectively using subtext to hint at a character’s depths. In this scene, Rumple never actually asks Pan “did you ever care for me?” or anything like that. He hasn’t wanted or needed his father’s approval for centuries. He wants Pan to consider the bigger picture, like he is, and consider if hurting all those people was actually worth it. He also wants to see if he can humiliate Pan by urging him to accept defeat. But Pan assumes that Rumple wants to know how he feels about him; this is the first path his mind goes down when Rumple makes a very vague request. And it’s the first because it’s a question that’s been at the back of Pan’s subconscious for so long. Remember in the flashback to Rumple’s childhood, Pan (then Malcolm) was never physically or verbally abusive to Rumple; perhaps neglectful and definitely irresponsible, but he did show him very open affection, including their little moments of playtime when they first came to Neverland together. Then even after he cut ties with his son, he did keep that doll and name himself after it, when he could’ve easily destroyed the doll and given himself any other name. Now Pan launches into those cruel and bitter words about Rumple’s childhood to maintain his pride and avoid showing vulnerability. He focuses on what he resented and hated about his son in the past, knowing that this focus will keep him going. If he allows himself to think about the good times and the things about Rumple that he did like back then, in his mind, that would be equivalent to showing weakness and losing the “dignity” he’s built for himself for so long. So he focuses on the bitter to fulfill his own idea of self-preservation.
