GM Alexander Grischuk predicts 2700 for Indian chess players in the nearest future, reacts to his "thug life" status, shares his opinion on Hikaru's "retirement" and more.
The FIDE Grand Prix 2022 is a series of three chess tournaments and the final qualifier for the Candidates Tournament. The top two finishers will qualify for the Candidates Tournament 2022, which is the final qualification stage for the World Chess Championship 2023. It’s organized by World Chess. The broadcast is commentated by Chess Grandmaster Evgenij Miroshnichenko and Woman International Master Jesse February.

Dina Belenkaya is so entertaining in these interviews. The questions are so left and right, she always reveals something interesting about the guests. Big fan. And of course Sasha is charismatic in his usual self.

I believe that comedy is an art form that revolves around revealing the truth, so I think Sasha is funny because of his blunt honesty and sober view on things.

Naka may be 'retired' but as Grischuk pointed out Naka keeps in practice so there is no rust factor for Naka therefore making a distinction of amateur vs professional is moot.

There is something to ne said about Naka being engaged with chess EVERY DAY. Sure it's probably not typical high level prep GMs do, but it adds up.

@@hq3473 i really think his streams helps him practice by evaluating "bad positions". We can similarly when he was doing puzzle rush. It seems that his playstyle revolves around eliminating wrong moves more, rather than finding the best move.

for young strong talents 2700 is nothing unusual, they almost all can reach it. But 2750 is a barrier, they are often trapped in 2700-2720 or smth like that

Well, it's true that he hasn't played classical for 2 years, but the fact is that most of the players had few games because of the pandemic, you can't really play classical not OTB, so it's not an Hikaru only situation. And also it was quite stupid to believe that someone who got past 2800 Elo in his life suddenly forgets how to play. He might not be number 2 in the world but he is absolutely still a top 20.
