I feel like this series overemphasised the role of DNA in the types of signal transduction dysfunction possible in cancerous tissues. Perhaps it would be helpful to mention protein folding (redox or glycosylation), and or protein transport, to ensure enquiring thought on the issue. Definitely my favourite hallmarks video though, I learned a lot.

Thanks for the comments - you're right, the hallmarks of cancer really describe phenotypic adaptations in cells (i.e. how they can be observed to behave). While DNA is an obvious starting point when looking to explain how cancerous cells have gained those behaviours/abilities, anything in between the building of a functional protein from DNA could have a role, including (as you've helpfully pointed out) protein handling, or even how those cells interact with their surrounding cells and environment. Eventually I'll try to come back to cover some of these important topics. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment!

Hi I would like to ask, does the part 1 + part 2 video of the hallmarks of cancer cover the full research paper by Hanahan and Weinberg? Thanks, great video

Hi Amelia, thanks for the kind comment. Its more of an overview to help you understand the 6 concepts they describe in the original paper. They've since expanded it in 2011 to include a further 4 hallmarks - these I haven't covered yet but will eventually get round to making another video on these!

Thanks for the comment! I've deliberately tried to keep it simple for now so as not to make it too overwhelming, this series of videos is more of a introduction than an all encompassing account - I'll aim to revisit some of these topics to expand on these later. Thanks for watching :)
