Great crash-test. The Mercedes clearly has the better body design. That Opel was damaged right up to the B-pillar, despite having a roof with extra roof rails.

If that had been a real person in the SLK, they would have been killed instantly. It appears that a combination of the airbag, G-force, and angle of the impact caused the dummy's head to hang out the drivers side window and get smashed by the other car. Might have taken a real persons head off. The scary thing is I drive an SLK just the that one.

@@ChrisChronos It really depends. The SLK had not its roof up. Besides, the Mercedes has a much stronger body compared to the Opel. It can be clearly seen that the Vectra deforms right up to the B-pillar, despite having a roof and roof rails also.

Even if the cars endured the accident, the human body is not prepared for this slowdown, internal and external bleeding, broken organs and bones, etc. As I said, it would be a lot of luck to get out alive and without sequelae for life...

The top bears almost zero structural support. Having it up would make very little if any difference.

For the vert you aren't wrong but hardtop does contribute to rigidity and durability. However, the coupe version of this car would likely hold up 2 to 3 times better than that. The chassis rigidity of the Chrysler Crossfire (same car, different body kit and trim) is around 52 hertz. Vert is less than half that

Die Knautschzone des SLK hat standgehalten, trotz der höheren Geschwindigkeit, die vom Opel nicht. Starke Intrudierung in die Fahrgastzelle des Vectra. Beim SLK Beifahrer wohl leicht verletzt, Fahrer schwer. Im Vectra wohl beide tot schätze ich

Mein Bruder ist mit 120 gegen ein Baum. Hand und Bein gebrochen sonst nur Prellungen. Ich kann dir sagen, du hast Recht!

Naja, der SLK ist ein Cabrio. Hast Du schon mal die Blechdicken verglichen? Ich habe zur Zeit des BMW E93 (er Cabrio) bei BMW gearbeitet, und damals verglichen: 4 mm! Beim Coupé (E92) war es kaum 1 mm. Die meisten neueren Cabrios sind regelrecht fahrende Rammböcke, deswegen sind sie auch trotz des fehlenden Dachs oftmals deutlich schwerer als das vergleichbare Limousinenmodell.

@@TheCrankshaftRotator Mercedes hat das gut ausgeglichen. Zwischen Motorraum und Fahrerraum ist ein dickes Stück stahl dass einen Aufprall sehr viel ungefährlicher macht. Mein Bruder hätte anders überhaupt nicht überlebt

@@kokoderaffe8649 Nimm´einen Astra G Cabrio als Vergleichsobjekt, und der hätte ganz ähnlich ausgesehen - noch dazu, wo der Vectra B bekanntlich nicht besonders sicher ist.

Gibt es kein Test mit Dach oben? Mein Bruder hatte jetzt ein Unfall wo er mit etwa 100+ kmh gegen ein Baum gebrettert ist. Und er hat es mit nur ein Bruch in der Hand und im Bein überlebt!! Am gleichen Tag (er in der Nacht der andere am Abend) hatte dann jemand anderes mit einem neueren BMW (weiß nicht mehr aber glaube Baujahr 2015) einen ähnlichen Unfall mit "nur" 70kmh und ist an den Verletzungen erlitten

The crash test dummies might be the latest generation but the cars are not. The Vectra B ceased production in 2002 and the SLK R170 in 2004.

With the same mass. We all know a newer cars are bigger and same model names are not comparable. I suggest tests like a old volvo S80 vs a newer S60, or a older Camry vs a newer Corolla

It is not Opel Astra but Opel Vectra B. Nice crash test. Mercedes driver would be decapitate I guess. See in slow-motion that he hits the roof by head. Terrible. Opel's driver would be fatal as well.

The Mercedes-Benz looks pretty bleak, but the Vectra, which I can imagine would be cheaper, looks a heck of a lot worse. Survival of the richest, me thinks.

Autsch! Spontan hätte ich gedacht dass der Mercedes SLK mit all den cabriospezifischen Versteifungen (noch) besser abschneidet. Gäbe es lt. den Ergebnissen eine Überlebenschance für einen der Insassen?

Pauschal kann man aus diesem Crash keine grundsätzlichen Rückschlüsse auf die "Überlebenschance" ziehen. Dies hängt von vielen Faktoren ab: angeschnallt, Größe und Konstitution des Fahrers, genaue Kollisionsstellung etc. In diesem gezeigten Fall stößt der PRIMUS-Dummy im Mercedes mit seinem Kopf gegen den Scheibenrahmen / A-Säule, was hier zu massiven Schädelverletzungen (auch mit Todesfolge) führen kann.

Der SLK hat wirklich stark abgeschnitten, Knautschzone hat standgehalten, Fahrgastzelle intakt.

@@SOS91199 Träum weiter. Das einzige was der SLK hier abgeschnitten hätte wäre der Kopf des Fahrers. 180 km/h kombinierte Aufprallgeschwindigkeit, viel Glück das mit einem menschlichen Körper zu überleben.

Spannendes und informatives Video 👍🏽 Ist der slk vor facelift im Jahr 2000 gebaut oder danach? Die Karosserie wurde nochmals deutlich verstärkt, wäre erschreckend wenn es bereits ein Fl-Modell ist.

Das ist ein PreFL also vor Facelift also vor 2000 gebaut. Das kann man an den Blinkern erkennen. Woher wissen Sie das die FL Slks verstärkt wurden?

Ese tipo de accidentes son mortal de necesidad a no ser que tengas mucha suerte. 90 + 90 = 180 km/h más las dos masas de los automóviles 2.500 kg aproximadamente. Eso ocurre en las carreteras y es muy difícil que los coches que protejan hasta ese nivel. Todas las fuerzas G, roturas externas e internas de los pasajeros lo más normal es que te maten...

Those kinds of accidents are fatal unless you're very lucky. 90 + 90 = 180 km/h plus the two masses of the cars, approximately 2,500 kg. That happens on the roads and it is very difficult for cars that protect to that level. All the G forces, external and internal breaks of the passengers, the most normal thing is that they kill you...

I think (at speed of 60km/h), it is rather like free falling 247 metres, with nothing but a small Air Bag to protect the head, whilst the remainder of your body slams hard into the ground.

This gen vectra is probably one of the most boring and shittiest cars ever made. Shame on such a big company as gm is. Its just looks so old cheap and thin. They wanted it to look futuristic so they made a cool lookin side mirrors and rear dome lights but everything else was just nasty and outdated even then. So dull boring unimaginative and unsafe. The next gen vectra is just sooo much better. The vectra b is more like a facelifted vectra a. Such a shame for a car that had a great potential (they wanted to be futuristic)
