I like how your riffage sounds. I looked at the tabs and I wanted to ask wouldn't it be a tad bit easier to play this if you were to just put the 7 string in drop a and use a capo at the first fret to get the same tuning instead of detuning the low string a half step and tuning the rest of the guitar up a half step?

It's all about how you tweak your EQ friend. Try taking away some mids, adding some more bass, and have a good amount of treble. Something like 6 at bass, 5 or 4 at Mids, and 7 or 8 at treble would give a nice tone. Also stay away from amps like Fender or Marshall. Not very good for high gain, unless you got a good distortion pedal. If you want to find a good high gain amp, look into Peavey or Line6.
