The 'One After 909' is probably the oldest Beatle song that they ever recorded. The song was written as early as 1957, and is one of the first Lennon-McCartney compositions. "That was something I wrote when I was about seventeen." - John Lennon "It's a great favourite of mine because it has great memories for me of John. We were trying to write a bluesy freight-train song. There were a lots of those songs at the time, like Midnight Special by Lead belly. We wrote the 'One After 909'. The girl in the song didn't get the 909, she got the one after it." - Paul McCartney John turned 17 on October 9th, 1957. Paul met John in July of 1957 and they began their amazing partnership that year. It is quite likely that John brought the beginnings of the song to Paul - and then they finished it together. That is what happened with a LOT of their songs. One would bring in a basic idea - and then they would finish the song together.

@@2Als1pod - Paul said he remembers writing "I'll Follow the Sun" at Forthlin Road in the late fifties, a day after he recovered from a bout of the flu. He added that he remembers standing in the parlour, with his guitar, looking out through the lace curtains of the window while writing it. "LATE" fifties seems later than 1957... to me. And there is a Beatles rehearsal tape of them playing an early version of the song in the summer of 1960. That suggests that it may have been written closer to 1959 - than 1957. Paul said that he wrote the music for "When I'm Sixty-Four" in 1958 when he was 16. He used to play it as an instrumental on the piano. He did not add words to it in until 1966.

@@NP20348 We know, man. John was behind most of their early stuff until Rubber Soul. Sometimes I like that era of The Beatles even better.

Paul and his band are excellent
@meanderer065136 жыл бұрын
I'd always felt that...if they are doing a Beatles' song, they should try to do it as faithful to the original as possible. Allowing his band to have their own 'interpretation' about how to play...say, a guitar solo, is sacrilegious.

Short-scale basses are often considered toys or beginner basses, but are very under-rated and sound really good. You know that fantastic thumping bassline on Keep On Running by The Spencer Davis Group? That's a Harmony H22, short scale!

Ballocks . John wrote this when he was nineteen.Because he isn't around do you think you can just say just about every song he wrote was Co written or a 60/40 or a 70/30.Did he write any songs himself god dam it.
@meanderer065136 жыл бұрын
Calm down! There's no need to get so fired up. Paul even said in 'Let It Be' that John had written it when he was a teenager...one of the first songs he'd written...Paul didn't claim any part of it. He clearly said it was a song John had written. There's no need to get yer knickers in a twist. :/
