Sona has an auto attack passive, hard cc, and healing. This leads me to believe AP xin zhao is very similar and would be a great pick (especially in high elo, like gold). Generally health bars go down, but this is where the off meta comes in... AP xin zhao's goes UP, which will throw off your enemies mental. This is my vote.

i tried it with shiv and riftmaker , its surprisingly decent you still do good damage as he has ap ratios everywhere and he heals a ton (and shiv proc heals with riftmaker on top of his passive heal)

I've actually been having a lot of fun playing this pick, been spamming it mid for a few weeks now. I was wondering what you think of tear/archangels on her? Something I've discovered is if you start tear, you can sit in base, and as long as you have at least one teammate in your aura you can stack your tear by spamming Q at the start of the game. Helps a lot getting into lane with that extra mana to work with, and makes her feel a lot more oppressive because more abilities = more passive procs.

Probably one of the biggest reasons Sona is a late game champ despite being a (IMO high risk but high reward) lane bully is because her power scales with the number of allies. Her q AP ratio with zero auto attacks is weak at just .5 per laser beam. If you tag everyone and get 1 auto off, that's like a massive extra .2*5 ap ratio, and that shit's spamable. Combined with how she enables the entire team to mobilize faster, and she just naturally scales when everyone gets together for late game 5 v 5s. tl;dr Sona power directly correlates with the amount of people she can give nice fluffy hugs.

I want to highly recommend a shotgun Seraphine Build. I played this even before there was the new items. The Range from the Seraphine passive can be abused to click on people from insane Range. And she also keeps her gamechanging CC.

I feel like electrocute would be more true to the shotgun sona, obviously aery is better for poke, auto attacking the enemy, it just works way better on sona especially late game but electrocute/thunderlords was always the go to key stone for this, obviously if you lose early you're kinda fooked but yea it definitely sounds fun dark harvest sounds fun too but yea probably not realistic to go for anything but aery in higher elo's

I have been enjoying shiv rush ap bard lately, and it is fantastic given I have been looking for something to make Bard work as an ap laner without sacrificing wave clear. Shiv was the answer from the gods for Bard APC mains (like me) and solo laners alike cuz now we can actually rush it and then go full ap burst not trading in AP burst nukes for low-range, flacid auto attack trading just to be able to push a wave. I recommend.

Maybe AD Kennen? A very old pick, but he still has attack speed from E, and the Electrical Surge stack still applies once per a few auto attacks. Or mixed damage with Statikk Shiv and Zhonyas, with the rest of the items being AD (kind of like mixed damage Kai'Sa build, possibly with more focus on attack speed. Also Trundle Mid. May be normal AD, or Nuke AP on his ultimate. His AP ratio on ult is surprisingly high.
