John, your effort in getting proper information out to everyone is greatly appreciated. I also listened to the conversation you had with Dan from Elk Shape. Within a weeks time, you’ve provided more valuable arrow information than I’ve managed to read over the last four years. BTW, I also use custom cut 8-32 screws on the back of my inserts to make every arrow in my quiver the exact same weight and gain some FOC without using a fishing weight as a broadhead. It made me smile when you mentioned using screws when talking with Dan. It confirmed that I’m thinking about the right stuff and that experimentation is necessary. Awesome work, man! Thank you!

Pretty pumped for the video dropping later. I have the same DL and DW as you and as a new guy this stuff is awesome! The only other thing I wish you would show is how you find the spine on your arrows. Thank you for all your content! It’s extremely helpful.

Another great tutorial regarding arrow weight and flight. I love my FMJs, and shooting them from a Mathews Triax set on 65 lbs. Your videos are outstanding - the technical lecture combined with your hands on shooting demonstration is just a superb teaching platform. Many thanks... and personally, I think the lawn is looking great, no matter if it's cut the same direction every time. 😜

When you are doing one of your 500 arrow practice sessions, how many arrows do you blow up by hitting with another arrow? How do you keep from wearing out your ten ring when you shoot those types of groups?

Great video! I use Easton axis 400 spine. My drawlengh is 26in and weight is 65lb and my arrow is 26in also. If I used 50 or 75 grain brass, what spine would I go up to 340 or 300 for one or both? 🎯
@nockonarchery
@nockonarchery Жыл бұрын
First off try a heavier head field point in the arrow you have to see how it responds. If you start getting more left and right errors then it shows it’s weak. Then you know if you went to 50 in front you might need the 340. But trying heavier points by 25-50 grains would reveal it

What’s up Dud! Hey, my DL is 28” and 67-68#. Shooting a 2018 PSE Expedite (5.25 brace hight ) I’m shooting Black eagles’s 5mm rampage 350 spine cut to 26.75 carbon to carbon, 75 grain insert/outsert 100 point weight at 436 grains total weight and 280 fps, you think is too light for Elk hunting out west?sometimes my arrow goes left or right when shooting passed 50 yards. Do you think I should go up in spine, say a 300 or 340? What’s your honest opinion about the arrow I’m shooting? I,ve heard good things about the axis but $$. Thanks for your videos and can’t wait to see the 20 minute one 👍

My draw length is also 30.5 with a Mathew’s triax. I know that’s a short axel to axel for that draw length but I inherited the bow from great uncle Robin Bechtel who was a pro hunter and guide, so I’m making the bow work for me . Can you tell me what you cut your axis arrows to length wise?

Not bad! Try now the Russian folk fun-shooting three arrows from 30m first broadhead then fieldpoint and bareshaft. You need to assemble the same group, but you can't move the sight and you need to aim at the same point.

I have a question about when you mentioned some have left helical and some have right helical and they all in the close group. But would it mater if the arrow shaft naturally turns left helical but is fletched right helical vane? Or naturally left helical turn arrow fletching with left helical vane is better]more accurate?

In addition, I wish Easton would offer a heavier Sonic for dangerous game and also a traditional archery version . I currently shoot Hexx and Axis. Like the 6mm insert so much better. Will be buying the Sonic when my supply of Hexx gets lower. Would replace all my Axis with 6mm if they had more options in that size.

Ready for the long form after this teaser! Went back to the axis after trying the FM Js and finding that the aluminum sleeve is not forgiving if you miss a target and hit dirt you'll have a bent arrow to throw away. Wasn't as big of a deal five or so years ago when they only cost $12 ton15 a piece but now that half a dozen cost $110 I'm sticking with the axis 😂
@nockonarchery

Yep you can bend aluminum. You get the weight from choosing an fMJ but aluminum does bend if you miss

Axis is a great hunting arrow. FMJ's are junk in my opinion, dont use them for grouse, make sure you pull them straight, and a hard impact with destroy them. Consider when available to reduce the insert brass weight to 75 for instance instead of 100 and add that weight to your broadhead , 125 or 150's. the added weight in the head is usually added in the blades and makes for a more durable killing head. Love my arrows in the low 500's for weight.
@feelsgooddoit
@feelsgooddoit Жыл бұрын
Fmjs ding easy don't tonk your arrows together or you'll mess them up. Personally I think they're a gimmick just as victory puts steal strands in an arrow. An arrow is only as strong as its weakest link, and it ain't the shafts, its the insert.
