@@QuietRiverBear Police unions do have their place... Police, Fire, EMS are not allowed to go on strike (the blue flu, or other sickouts like to get played up but let me tell you that they can have some severe penalties associated with them and not just a you are fired type of thing), officers can picket and protest just the same as everyone else however when they are scheduled to work their shifts they must. So, having a group such as the Fraternal Order of Police, CLEAT or one of the other unions is a good thing. Also, even when an officer is doing everything perfectly, is in full compliance with the laws, and operating procedures they can still find themselves named in a lawsuit along with the city they work for. And if you don't think for one second that the city wouldn't hang them out to dry you'd be completely wrong. Most of what the unions do is to provided legal representation for officers, when they are subject to lawsuits frivolous or not its expensive, when they have been involved in an incident like and OIS where they need legal representation, or when there are contract negotiations such as for benefits as employees of the municipality, county, state etc. The unions don't keep bad cops in their positions, that's a stupid Hollywood trope, the unions don't want bad cops on the job either, but it's also relevant that everyone is entitled to a good and proper legal defense. No one deserves to be railroaded in a courtroom .

I also have fired and arrested an officer for 'filing false reports' and 'Blatant Dishonesty'. If more CLEOs would do their job, there wouldn't be issues like this. I once had an Officer that was a good guy and a friend. He did something stupid in his personal life dating multiple ladies (not a crime but something that upset one of the girls and drew negative attention to himself)... It had caused enough of a stir that he had to go. I didn't WANT to fire this young man (It was a poor decision in dating but was going to ruin his employment record (He was a decorated Veteran before getting into Law Enforcement, as well). Well, I told him that it was a slow day and to go to the office and think about his 'dating situation'. He asked me why and I explained that I had to decide about firing him for 'conduct unbecoming' and would be 'taking care of that' by 5PM. He decided to write a letter of resignation and turn it in before the end of the day. I wouldn't have done that if his actions had been criminal and not just a young man being stupid about 'playing the field' with the girls. Mostly out of towners are normally in a hurry to catch a flight and running with that fast paced traffic of the metroplex., normally 70 to 80 mph in the slow lane. The exit is 35 mph and there he sits. He doesn't ask for drivers license, insurance or registration. He has a high speed mini computer that spits out a ticket based on the license plate of the car. He stops you, pulls up along side you and hands you a pre-filled in ticket, with the license plate number on it and instructions on how to pay up. The city is hoping you ignore the ticket, so the car can be tracked down and seized at a later date. Believe it or not some of the DA’s have tried to justify their arrests and prosecutions that in several cases lead to the loss of professional jobs, one woman lost custody of her children to the state as a direct result of the false arrests. I’m not sure if it was 60 Minutes or something else like that but they did an awesome episode on it where these people were arrested sometimes jailed long term had their personal lives destroyed all because someone said they appeared to be under the influence of something even though breathalyzer tests were clean later blood tests were clean and in some cases suspicious substance’s were determined to be exactly the legal items the people told the cops they were. However the DA’s and people in the different police departments said these officers had specialized training so they trust their word over hard science of actual bloodwork showing they weren’t intoxicated and stand by the arrests of their officer

I recently sat on a jury for a DUI case. The guy ended up being well over the limit (I think he was .15 and the limit was .08), but the interesting thing was the judges instructions on the law did not say if they are over the limit they are guilty and if they are under they are not. The instructions say you can presume impairment if they are over 0.08, and impairment is the metric not BAC. So, you could be impaired and be well under the limit.

All of the people had out of State or out of county license plates. My grandmother asked in court why I would run a stop sign I was aware of most of my life and how I could hav a pretty long conversation with the other 3 people in the car while running the sign? My friends who were passengers all came and told the judge of our conversation and that it occurred while stopped at the stop sign. Any cop that allows bad cops is a bad cop. Therefore, there aren't really any good cops

Don't hate the cop....your federal govt incentivise them with grants to do DUI arrest

If 0.000001% of cops are considered bad apple cops and the other 99.999999% aide and abet their illegal activities, what does that say about all 100% of them.

Hello Mr. Lehto, I saw a video of a truck driver who was at a rest area who some DOT inspectors came to truck for an inspection. He then told them to go ahead but he wouldn't help with it, operating the brakes, lights or any other aspect of the truck citing his 5 th amendment rights. He told them he would get out and let them do it, they said they couldn't do it. What is your view of this? Thank you, John

The fort Collins district attorney said he would refuse to prosecute cases from this officer unless something was done about these false arrests

I bet the worst part is that the Police Union Protected him.. Protecting a Crooked Cop, it ruins it for the Good Cops!!

What good cops?!? Ohhhh....you mean like the ones in Uvalde that stood hidden like COWARDS in the school hallway while the students and teachers were being massacred?!? Yeah, so many good cops out there! Time to DISBAND these Costumed and Badged 🤡🤡🤡🤡

Are there any?

A lot of times these guys get their jobs back once things quiet down. All the union lawyers have to do is show that there was a procedural error on the part of the department. Due process is one thing, but when they can be shown to be lying even on video, and still not face any repercussions, that shows that it's actually about protecting bad employees no matter what.

@@mrbearder6373 I have actually interacted with some good cops. But the fact that they protect each other no matter the egregious behavior poisons me against all of them. I will never believe any of them. If they would just clean house instead of protecting fellow cop criminals they would get so much cooperation from citizens there might not be any more crime.

My son got 2 DUI's in 1 month for DUI to other because when he blew into the breathalyzer it showed 0.0 my son ask for the alternative blood test and they would not take him to the hospital. So he pledged guilty because the fine was less than getting a lawyer. So sad they do stuff like this.

@@coop5329 he could not get a public defender. They told him he had to get his own lawyer. Just didn't have the money. The court let him pay the fines by monthly payments. Crooks in that county big time. Mississippi

Saw another very similar situation on KZbin. The officer was promoted and given an award by MADD for his (false) arrest of a record number of (suspected) dui drivers.

I am 67, I have had a few injuries in my life that would prevent me from passing a field sobriety test. And I don't even drink alcohol of any kind or do drugs. Those tests need to be updated.
@loosemoose97992 жыл бұрын
Those tests need top be eliminated. The FST is subjective and the results are determined by the officer. Most police officers cannot pass those series of tests. The field breathalyzer varies from 30% accurate to about 75%. There are several reasons for the inaccuracies. Onions, garlic and other foods and liquids can cause the breath to register alcohol. An upset stomach may also give a false reading. Diabetics can show intoxication. The ketones in the breath at a certain level will register alcohol content. Retired LEO.
