Hang with the dudes from RTC as we rip out and replace a driveway that's only 5 minutes away from the shop.

My pops does the same thing buddy. Use the forks or the bucket to tear out the driveway. Sometimes it’s nice to have a breaker for certain situations but breaking out an entire driveway is time consuming when all you have to do is lift sections and let the weight drop. Way faster

Just found your channel this past weekend and have watched a handful of videos so far. Really enjoying them and your work looks great! A few questions: Why not place some rebar or mesh in the sidewalk and approach areas since they will see the same traffic as the driveway? Do you verify with the City/County what the sidewalk and approach construction specifications are? Maybe it doesn't matter since you are just replacing existing?
@RickThomasConcrete9 ай бұрын
Thanks! Most municipalities we work in require the sidewalk and approach to be 6" thick, non-reinforced

In the mid-80s, I drove a concrete truck. We were downtown, maybe one block from the main drive, the city was burring all its utilities, like hydro and internet and such. The construction company doing the work dug a hole across the street and put tape and sawhorse-type blockages, it was well protected. they mesh of plastic pipes in the hole, then we came in and covered them we pea iize gravel concrete, then came with flowable fill, which is concrete that when hardened you could shovel it, but put asphalt over this and you could drive a Canadian 140,000 lb truck over with no issues. But that day I was the last truck to drop this flowable fil and I heard a scream, here was a lady, in garb, you see in India, up to her armpits in this pit. How she got there, nobody had a clue, they had blocked off totally

why no isolation of the sidewalk you would be tearing that out if you were in my city groovers are ok but not as affective as a 1-1/2 inch deep sawcut and more affective you can come back saw the next day and have a neater looking job isolation is very important on city right of way in case the city has to dig up utilities they dont have to rely on breaking out more concrete than needed

Because it's not required here on this job

how come driveways have to have the cuts in them but a basketball court doesnt? Is there a way to make a driveway without those cuts or cracks or whatever you call them?

Concrete is very brittle and will definitely crack in random places if we don't install control joints/relief joints

After putting down a concrete driveway and tape up the area how long do the costumers need to wait before driving on 100% cured concrete 🤔 I'm thinking 2 weeks should be alright what is your opinion?
