I looked up what the song meant and makes so much sense now : They have an on/off relationship. Here, they’re starting to date again. Their friends are probably sick of the constant “break up/get back together” cycle, questioning “will it ever end?”
But the couple are so happy that they don’t care. They feel like they’re flying so high, they’re looking down at the clouds instead of gazing up at them from the ground. In a different perspective, “Looking down on the clouds” could refer to the view from planes that they’re on because they’re following their dreams, or happiness.

@@tegaagbro7202 after i listened to this yesterday i listened to clouds and zayns high notes a lot trying to figure it out because it’s really bugged me and if you listen closely you can tell it isn’t zayn. in the easiest way to describe it when zayn does his high notes his throat sounds open and it doesn’t sound tight or strained but when you listen to the high notes in clouds it sounds tight and strained and it’s a different pitch to zayn it’s higher so you can 100% tell it’s louis’

Y’all it’s Zayn... the reason it sounds “off” or not like him is because for one, it’s studio, and they usually put voice effects on it, and two, it’s a really high note, so his voice sounds more “strained” and squeaky, for example, it kind of sounds like how he sounds with the Rock Me high note, and sounds almost identical to when zayn sings “in every way-ay-yeah” in Another World at the end.

Right..... well I know it's definitely Zayn. His voice is so distinct and it sounds nothing like Louis. Plus actually, Zayn can sing the highest out of the entire group (check some fan questions they answer in concert where they all try and sing as high as possible, Zayn can go way higher than the rest of them). So he is completely capable of singing that high. Louis' voice is higher *pitched* in general, but he can't project his voice that well when he actually *sings high* too like Zayn can. Plus there are songs where Zayn sings high too so you cannot dismiss his ability to do so.
