Yeah, fanfiction at the start was meant to be more of "sharing your diary/little stories with some niché friends" from what I've heard. It was never meant to be something that was public enough so the people it's written about can stumble over it. The big issue showed up when lines were blurred. People have had small fanclubs and written stories for decades (centuries?). It was detached and abstract enough that the person might as well be fictional. The difference is the gap has been closed by social media so it's all muddled. Celebrities have to stumble over the little fan clubs smut written about them plus delusional fans that genuinely believe what they are writing (which have always existed) have access to easily harass the people in their life.

Erin was SO good at conveying the information BRUTALY honest while still being a fan. So much introspection about their (at the end of the day) lack of talent and some might even say individual charisma, but connection with fangirls through the video diaries and so on. The idea of their friendship, the banter, being british and obsession to date any of them doing all the heavy lifting. They eventualy got pretty good, but the beginning was rough.

I mean the Zayn and Louis beef went a bit deeper. They were probably the closest before Zayn left. Essentially, Louis’ mom passed away a few months after 1D went on hiatus. Louis invited all the boys to his performance at AGT that his mom told him he needed to do before she passed. All the boys came except for Zayn, which hurt Louis for a while. Zayn made some vague tweets about messing up after that. The Larry shippers kind of ruined Louis and Harry’s friendship. They were really close from 2010-2012, but then barely interacted after. They even admitted that the shippers made them awkward since they would analyze their every move, and also harass their girlfriends. Also, Harry had tried to leave the band before Zayn, back in 2013. He suggested the hiatus, and at the time the boys refused. Harry suggested the hiatus again after Zayn left. Louis and Liam actually thought it would just be a hiatus, and were flabbergasted when Harry released his solo albums. Liam also was promised to be the frontman by Simon Cowell. Liam had auditioned two years before and he was promised that if he came back he’d have a bigger role. He actually had the most verses on the first two albums. Harry eventually took over as frontman because he was more popular.
