They did actually write on one or two of these songs. Don’t remember which ones without looking it up though. Louis is the one leading the charge for them being able to be apart of their own songs. He felt as he didn’t have many solos he was useless in the band and made it his mission to be apart of the writing team. So that lead to the sound change you’ll hear on album 3 and all of them now being able to write. Louis has the most writing credits with Liam close behind. Louis & Liam was the best writing duo ♥️

So excited to watch the album reactions! There are three music videos for this album: What makes you beautiful, Gotta be you and One Thing. They started writing from their third album-Midnight Memories. Some parts where you said it is Harry, it was Zayn and when you said it was Zayn, it was Harry haha. There is a video for Got To Be You and it was filmed at my alma mater (State University of NY at Plattsburgh) and surrounding area of the Adirondacks. I worked at the college at the time and was there the day they filmed but hadn't heard of them so didn't bother checking them out (I don't think they were that well known in the states yet at the time). I am such a big fan of theirs now, I could kick myself! What I have always wondered is how a boyband from the UK ended up filming a mv in a small rural area in upstate NY!

They started writing their own songs on the Midnight Memories album and all the ones after that. They all wrote for the band, but Louis is the one who wrote most of it (often with Liam). Louis is a really talented song writer. Love your reactions

Love it guys, their music only gets better from here on. There are a few Bonus tracks from this album, but the most important one and the one you should check out is called Moments, it's a great song and was written by Ed Sheeran when he was still pretty much unknown worldwide and only starting to get known in the UK, back then him and Harry met and became close friends.

They’ll start writing the most on the THIRD album, Midnight Memories. You’ll notice a lot of songs co-written by both Louis and Liam (I’m not sure of the total number of songs Liam co-wrote with Louis on but I know Louis was involved in 12 out of the 18 tracks on it) and the boys will get into writing more later on, just not as much as you’ll be seeing Louis’ and Liam’s names next to the tracks.

@B Raz lmao ok if you think of mature, meaningful songs as boring... You can always just stick to the ones with a fun beat if you’re not a lyric person, maybe just listen to Up All Night on repeat. Though they wrote a variety of fun, catchy, slow and deep songs in every album so it’s not like you had limited options. To each their own. I personally enjoyed the songs they wrote on the most (and I know for a fact that a majority of the fandom did as well) but I guess yk different tastes..

Great reaction! There is definitely the difference between singles and songs like Taken, I Want, Tell Me A Lie, so you can tell they and the label were testing the water there. I love their first album, even though it has many boybandy songs like Gotta Be You)) It's still part of the history and I love it)) Thankfully, they got rid of all those "renowned" commercial songwriters by album 3, took over creative process leaving a tight team of songwriters like John Ryan, Julian Bunetta and couple of others I don't remember. Louis and Niall even collaborated with them for some of their solo stuff. Ben Winston of Fullwell73 filmed a lot of their footage, started as a cameraman and producer for their first documentary and now he's exec producer of Late Late show and award ceremonies, including this year's Grammy. Crazy when you think about it :) Same team directed Harry's TPWK music video)) So they still have connection with people they worked with while in the band, I think it's wholesome, as well as professional.

Taken and More Than This are my 2 favorites of them album. You should listen to the Souvenir Edition of this album because it contains 5 extra songs that aren’t included in the normal version. First and second album follows the boyband formular and yes N’sync and Backstreet feels. Liam usually starts like on X Factor. 😊 It is harder at times to hear who sings because on a lot of songs they’ve added weird affects on their voices. It’s why I prefer them live for the 2 first albums.

The first album had very very little input from them. The second one had more input. They wrote some songs By the time of the third one they (mainly Louis) fought for their sound change and more creative control. From then on you can see their songwriting and vocals come out beautifully with so much more deeper lyrics

What both surprises and bugs me about Up All Night era, however, is the way the label was not taking any chances in making this band big. That's why general public called them manufactured but it wasn't just that, all commercial groups are manufactured but so few become global. It was a combination of the boys talent and hardwork, the label's insightfulness, as well as perfect timing and luck. They hit their goal, they made the boys a phenomenon in the US and I'm thankful for that. But I do not appreciate the means they used. The main single was the only one with a backtrack (at least I hear it only in WMYB). They used so much autotune for the DVD, it's painful to hear. I don't understand why they needed it, I saw fan videos from that day, and all the boys sounded amazing. They didn't give much solo to Niall and Louis, probably thinking their vocals were least stable, which I highly doubt. It seems like Niall has more solos in X Factor series than in 1st album tbh. I feel like they would continue milking this cleancut image if it wasn't for the boys who were having none of it. They definitely had more say by the time they began touring the second album. You can even see it in their TMH tour - first few shows they even had different clothes, it was more teensy and coordinated, but after a few shows the boys just switched to simple skinnies and tees. There definitely was some kind of turning point and I love that.

There is another song on the album called "Moments" (one of the best songs), and three others so look for those. The boys usually have deluxe or special edition albums. When you do the other albums pull up and check out AZLyrics.com (they have who sings what for a lot of the songs).
