you are on the right track... that transistor for sure is one of the last faulty component left.. keep going... you have to get over your failing fear and the only way to do that is keep going.... can't wait for the second part on this receiver!! I did give you the substutes for that transistor....

Yep, that's why I bought so many of those replacement transistors. Wanted to give myself a reason to do this again someday.

ow yes, almost every time power transistors fails, they get some other parts to the death with themselves... Very nice video - as always! Cheers!

Keep going its a good challenge to get this amp working.....i repaired a SR 607 and i found several power transistors dry jointed and also a few dry joints on the main pcb....seems to work ok now.

So far so good. It seems like you've got the major problems taken care of, now time to clean up the little ones. I would double check Q6031 again. That burnt resistor on the base of Q6031 was due to high current passing through it. That same current went through the base of that transistor. Hopefully it was rugged enough to handle it, but it concerns me none the less.

That's one of my main concerns as well. I really wanted to replace those pre-drivers.

about the other transistors... yes you can find replacements for them they may have other pinouts but you can just make a little adaptor board for them.... and as long the current they can handle are the same or more they will be usable as a replacement... but then you got to change them all !!!! timestamp 25:31

finish what you start you learn by your mistakes

for the bias pots... the values you are measuring also depends on other components in circuit around the pots... so not a good way to test them this way... in my experience the pots are ok!!!! that is at timestamp 23:57.... now I continue watching :)

also always check the outputs for dc voltage with a dummy load connected and after repair same thing as you may have to adjust the dc offset

That transistor resistor never seen before..... JK yeah common for transistors to fail in such a way, these consumer grade amps are a nightmare to repair unlike the rackmount professional grade equipment far easier. nice video i shall sub, i shall let other E.E guys know too.

Do you use dim bulb tester for short circuit protection?

I understand why you wanted to fix this reveiver, these Onkyo's are great and I do love them, but why spend so much time and money on something that is worthless? I have three of these Onkyo's, two TX-SR608's and one TX-SR607. One of the 608's has been my main home cinema amp for 15 years and i love it, it still works perfectly. The other 608 has the infamous 'no sound' issue, the result of a failed DSP chip, I am keeping it for spares only. The TX-SR607 came to me as an ebay purchase (very cheap) with a failed display. This was fixed with a 2.2 ohm resistor that had gone open circuit and it is now my AV amp in our living room, working perfectly.

i learnt , its become a throw away product. these never become "vintage" . i have an onkyo a8850 with a jumping selector, they al have that problem , i disconected the litle engine that moves the selector switch and use only one source over a mixer, they sound amazing, but once they fail its mostly not possible to repair, special transistors or parts. i just bought a new onkyo , tx-nr696 this thing can do so much, its like a computer, the sound is nice, but not as nice as my older a8850. and when something fails, it will be something like a processor that breaks. i have a verry heavy and once expencive marantz, 7200. a beauty !!! but the video output is dead, so u cant go in to the menu and programe the outputs, it works , but only half, the reciever seems to be ok, but the electronics ,,,,, this will happen with our new cars also, great engines, but the electronics kill em.

Im doing that project rn, tomorow will bring cover to add slots for 2 wens on top, i installed automatic controler for temp control that activates with temperature, mine gets hot too, like up to 90 C....no idea why, and sometimes when its in stand by and i want to turn it on, it just trips in safe mode, and i have to start it few times so sudenly it would start working...
