Thanks so much to everyone who joined us at our Symposium in 2023 as we celebrated Schizophrenia Awareness Day.
Firstly, we would like to say a big thank you to Minister Rose Jackson, Catherine Lourey and the team at the Mental Health Commission of NSW for their support and for assisting us in making a positive impact in the lives of individuals living with mental health concerns.
It was wonderful to bring lived experience and the people we support to the forefront with empowering presentations such as "The Power of Love" by Dr. Richard Schweizer, the "Circles of Connection" program led by Meredith Coote and our dedicated staff volunteers, and hear the invaluable insights on co-designing shared by the fantastic team from the ALIVE National Centre for Mental Health Research Translation.
We were proud to share the stage with like-minded organisations and highlight the significance of recovery oriented services such as Mind Australia's Haven and KidsXpress.
Most importantly, as a collective group, we engaged in discussions centred around various themes including the importance of collaboration across systems, professional assessments, the role of support coordinators, and the connection and authority they hold with consent. Throughout the workshop, we heard consistent stories that we hope can be incorporated into the other recommendations emerging from the NDIS review. These practical insights will be shared with the review team to potentially enhance the outcome of their work and the lives of the people we support. It was truly an exciting experience witnessing guests coming together to advocate for a better system!
After many years, new therapies and research continue to captivate our audience, and we were grateful to have Prof. Anthony Harris, our chair, present on the breakthrough technology of wearables, as well as Carla Haroutonian's presentation on the Voice Study.
Thank you all once again, and we look forward to seeing you next year!
