In this video, we're going to check out an easy way to change your object origins, and therefore your pivot points inside of Blender! This can make scaling and rotating much more precise and easy to do inside of your models!

Sir, you are a genius, simply for showing the options menu and how to move the origin point MANUALLY. You have no idea how many videos and text articles I've gone through to get this piece of information, and they all meticulously dodge that issue and rather focus on snapping to an edge or the right click dropdown etc. Like slalom avoidance. Thank you so much!

I did spend one hour trying to rotate the orientation. I mean, moving the origin around especially with snapping active is quite easy with the option you suggested. But, when it comes to all change the orientation of the origin to match precisely whatever direction you want, (e.g. a geometry feature not aligned with one of the faces) than snapping seems not to be useful... Or, at least, I was not able to get it done. :/

If I make a translation in geo nodes, how can i make the pivot stay the same? That is, have the pivot move along with the translation in geo nodes. I want to combine hand-animation with rotate keyframes + add some translation using geo nodes. Thus the need to keep the pivot in place in geo nodes.

This is great. I would like some additional information about pivot points. If I want to translate, rotate, or scale an item in edit mode. Say scale an edge from a vert instead of the center. or rotate a face from the edge rather than the center. Is there a edit mode pivot point?

This will come in very useful. Does that change the rotation itself/axis based on object origin? For example, I am making a scene with some old storm shelter/cellar doors. They are at a 40° angle, but I want them to rotate on an edge, like the real doors would. The axis itself doesn't change, so the door itself is all out of position after rotating it even 1°.
@robdavis85563 жыл бұрын
For tricky rotations I add an Empty as an invisible hinge and parent the door to it. Then you can rotate/animate the Empty to control the door.

Worth noting that the shortcut to toggle "Origins Only" is Ctrl dot (then select the object to select the origin) faster than going to the menu. Another way: Assign a shortcut to Object > Set origin > Origin to 3d cursor - I have mine set to Ctrl , [that's Ctrl comma]. To assign a shortcut right click the menu item Shift - right click - drag > moves the 3d cursor, snap where you want (you can use ctrl at the same time to toggle snapping) Ctrl , Really fast once you get used to it and shift right click drag is useful for placing new objects or just getting the 3d cursor out of the way

There are ways to speed up the process of changing Pivot's location for free. Activate the Addon built into the Blender called 3D Viewport Pie Menus > Edit Mode > Mark Verts, Edge or Face > Press Ctrl+Alt+X and select "Origin To Selection" > DONE! Besides, there is also an option to pin the pivot immediately to the bottom of the mesh. Much faster. If someone does not like Pie menu, another interesting free addon is "Origin at selected". In the same way, in Edit mode, select the place where you want to place your pivot, press Shift+Ctrl+C and you're DONE! :) Nice video. It's worth knowing the basics of how Blender works, but it's not worth tormenting yourself.
