One Family/Two Faiths Part One: You Have to Talk

At least 1 in 5 U.S. adults grew up in a family with multiple religious beliefs represented - and all Americans live in an increasingly religiously diverse society. Religious differences can divide us, threatening to create a “molten moment” of danger for relationships and for democracy. Or, four interfaith experts say, practicing uncomfortable conversations can be a reminder of the value of freedom of belief, enshrined in the First Amendment.

Susan Katz Miller, author of “Being Both: Embracing Two Religions in One Interfaith Family,” was raised in an interfaith family with one Jewish parent and one Protestant parent and now raisers her children in both religions.
Charlene Hong White, former campus ministry staff, was raised in a variety of Christian traditions including Chinese immigrant churches and currently attends an Anglican church.
Bart Campolo, humanist chaplain, is the son of well-known evangelical Christian figure Tony Campolo. Once an evangelical minister himself, Bart is now a secular humanist.
