My husband and I walked the TA NI SOBO in 2019/20 as far as Koitiata Beach when plantar fasciitis got the better of me. Looks like you were on the trail at the same time as us, though we don’t remember you. It was a blessing as we returned home just in time for lockdown. Post pandemic 2022/23 we returned and walked NOBO from Bluff as far as Lake Ohau, when we had to leave the trail again as I badly twisted my knee, slipping in the Ahuriri River. Undeterred, we are returning this October the walk from Picton SOBO, though we have decided we are too old (65 and 68) to walk the Richmonds, we shall do some of the Great Walks to make up the mileage……as they say “walk your own walk”. We really enjoyed your summary of the TA. Thank you.

Amazing trip, and an amazing country! Loved New Zealand.19 years ago I met my wife while hitchhiking the South Island... I did some similar travel before smart phones and You Tube, Hitched from CapeTown to Tanzania and back, and spent 7 months exploring Europe by bike. You are so right, your desire to be alone in nature is what pulls us out there. Just wish i could share some of it like you have. Well done!!
