Paroles
It's quarter to three, there's no one in the place except you and meSo, set 'em up, Joe, I got a little story I think you should knowWe're drinkin', my friend, to the end of a brief episodeMake it one for my baby and one more for the roadI got the routine, put another nickel in the machineFeelin' so bad, wish you'd make the music easy and sadI could tell you a lot, but you've got to be true to your codeJust make it one for my baby and one more for the roadYou'd never know it but buddy, I'm a kind of poetAnd I got a lot of things I'd like to sayAnd when I'm gloomy, won't you listen to me?'Til it's all talked awayWell, that's how it goes and JoeI know you're gettin' anxious to closeSo, thanks for the cheer, I hope you didn't mind my bendin' your earBut this torch that I found must be drowned or it soon might explodeSo, make it one for my baby and one more for the road
One for My Baby (and One More for the Road), littéralement Un pour mon bébé (et un de plus pour la route), est une chanson populaire américaine écrite par Harold Arlen et Johnny Mercer pour le film L'Aventure inoubliable (The Sky's the Limit, 1943) d'Edward Griffith, avec Fred Astaire.Cette chanson sera popularisée par le célèbre chanteur Frank Sinatra qui l'enregistra à diverses reprises durant sa carrière, à commencer avec Columbia Records en 1947, pour la bande sonore du film Young At Heart en 1954, pour Frank Sinatra Sings for Only the Lonely en 1958, pour Sinatra & Sextet: Live in Paris en 1962, pour Sinatra at the Sands en 1966 et finalement pour son album Duets en 1993.
