Going through the aftermath of a breakup right now, and even though it was (mostly) mutual and he and I are trying to take things back to friendship, it's kind of nice and a little therapeutic to listen to songs that are in the... um, "fuck you" genre. Thanks, Dodie!
@LlamaSocksRock9 жыл бұрын
I know right. I went through a breakup three months ago, and he emotionally abused me during and after the relationship. people constantly tell me how nice he was and that I shouldn't accuse him of emotionally abusing me, and it invalidates my feelings and makes me feel horrible. my point is, it's very very nice to have some fuck you songs xD
@ramywiles9 жыл бұрын
Llama Socks Rock I'm so sorry that happened to you and that people are invalidating you... yeah, you definitely deserve to listen to all the fuck you songs you want! I hope that you can continue to heal from that relationship whether or not you get outside validation from the people you talk to, though. You know what happened to you better than anyone else does, and you're completely allowed to feel whatever feelings you have about what happened.

Dodie. I know this song was a while ago, but I've got a story for you. Around December I was going through a really rough time and had some relatively mild depression. I felt like I wasn't really there. Then I found this song. The gentle power (if that makes any sense) and general spirit of the song was the first thing to make me smile for a full two weeks previous. I got so obsessed with the song and slowly started feeling better. I saw your how-to video and immediately got a super crap plastic uke for like 30 dollars. A week later I had learned this song plus a few others (including a non-love song from nashville/tourist!! Omg its so cool) and whenever I feel down, I learn a new song or play the old songs. Dodie, you fabulous bean, you snapped me out of it. Gave me a new healthy hobby. Your videos brighten my day so much. You're a wonderful person, and that includes your flaws. Loads of love from Texas, USA ❤️
@lorisiccia59145 жыл бұрын
Love your story. Love tgat this song has helped so many people already. Ive just signed up for uke for fun class. Hope to find that tutorial you mentioned of this song. Ukelele my way out of depression. Glad to have just found Dodie and her magical talent. Cheers to you in Texas from BC.

So, I'm a cashier in a small town. Anyway, my freshman year of high school in said small town, I was in a bad, bad relationship. That ended about a year later, so skip through high school, skip through all four years of college. I'm graduated, years later, working my lil' cashier gig. I love it. I'm happy. And then... that person just shows up, who was supposedly in another state. He's standing at my counter, looking at me, as if he expects me to say something. Needless to say, his "wife" was with him. And I know he knew me, and that he knew I knew him. Lots of knowing, lots of awkward silence. And the first thing I came and listened to--was this. This song helped me cope with that years down the road, and tonight, it reminds me again that I don't have to deal with him any longer. My heart doesn't ache. I've been in a happy relationship with my best friend for almost seven years now--so the sting is gone, but it's a shell-shock to run into an abuser. This song--when I found out--helped me deal with a lot of repressed memories and feelings that I didn't know how to begin to tackle. And after tonight, it will hold another meaning to me.
@imogen-mahnihayward44315 жыл бұрын
toriality oh, I feel you! I’m so sorry you had to see him. My abuser had to stay in our house for a few days, he’s here right now. Quite scary, really. I’m glad you found a sense of clarity, as I did the same thing and watched this! Broke up with my ex yesterday who would always point out people who she thought were hot when she was with me and told me that was normal, she also texted me and asked if I was okay with her playing spin the bottle twice and tried to manipulate me into thinking that was normal too. Don’t need that and if your instincts tell you something is wrong believe them! My anxiety sky rocketed when I was with her and if that happens to you with someone, they’re not right for you. Take the signs to heart and build up the courage to do what you need to make yourself happy. I always come back to this song after a bad relationship.
