I think this is why I feel strat is the best when it comes to sports simulation.

I like them all for different reasons but Strat is where its at for me. Strat Baseball is on my table most of the time followed by Strat Hockey. I can play a game of Strat hockey in less than an hour. The game flow can't be beat.

this was a great project, thanks for sharing. I've been looking into a hockey game, but need to start with something simple.

Basic Strat is very easy to catch onto. You can literally have it running on the table in about 30 min. You can pick and choose which advanced and super advanced to add at anytime.

Thanks I will give it a try.

Dave great job on explanations on everything. I was hoping for a penalty, I wanted to see how “you” do the super advanced power play. Strat is number 1 in hockey 🏒 APBA 2..

Great video. I play strat exclusively but enjoyed all 3 videos. I want to try and post some myself. What kind of equipment are you using ? Also, a couple of strat play comments. Im curious about your timekeeping. If a goal is scored on the first card and you roll 2 20 sided die, what time do you put for the goal? At one point you drew an AC that said Inside shot LD (RD) I-RD (LD). I believe that the inside shot goes to the LD unless he has the puck in which case he passes to the RD for the inside shot with possible intimidation from the opposite defenseman. You chose a d-man to pass to. I think that's incorrect.
@daves12495 жыл бұрын
I just have a Canon T5i on a tri-pod. I actually have my arms through the tri-pod when filming so it makes it hard to read the cards sometimes Since timing in NHL games run from 20 minutes on down I reversed the super advanced chart so the first card turned starts at 19:20, with 2 rolls of the d20 you can technically (if double 20s are rolled) score right after the puck is dropped.
@JaySlansky5 жыл бұрын
@@daves1249 If a goal is scored after the first card, I roll 2 20's. Let's say that roll prouduces a 35. The time of the goal that I put down is 0:35 of the first period. I'm thinking you put it down as 19:25?
@daves12495 жыл бұрын
@@JaySlansky With 2 rolls equaling 35sec I would put it down as 19:55 (19:20 being the time of the dirst card turned over). That's how the NHL does it. They start the period with 20 minutes on the clock and count down to zero.
@JaySlansky5 жыл бұрын
@@daves1249 Yes that's the way the clock winds down but I am pretty sure you are mistaken when it comes to time of goals and penalties. If a goal is scored a minute into the game, the goal is marked as occuring at 1:00 of the first period.
@daves12495 жыл бұрын
@@JaySlansky the way the NHL does it now seems to confusing for me. If there is 18:00 minutes on the clock they now record it as 2:00 minutes. I still record it on my score sheet the way they used to do it on Hockey Night in Canada and the way my local rink still does it, they goal was scored at the 18:00 minute mark. Feel free to record it any way you'd like if you choose to use it. The great thing about tabletop gaming is you are in control.

Great Job!!! Your video convinced me what I pretty much already knew, Hockey Blast is just not for me. I think the PLAAY line of games work best as a, well, GAME and not a simulation. I don;t like the engine very much and just not my cup of tea. I have tried APBA but have always come back to SOM hockey. I think it's the best for solitaire play and really flows well, even with some of the mods I use from strat-hockey.net. Thank you for taking the time to setup and play this project, was a really great idea!!!!

One of my other hobbies is wood working. I made this one with scrap plywood and lined it with flocking inside. I made it so there is a base tray and the tower so I can use them seperately if needed.
