Nicholas McCarthy, the world’s only one-handed concert pianist, delves into the history of left hand piano, how pioneers before him like Géza Zichy and Paul Wittgenstein have shaped his life as a musician today - and he hopes to shape the landscape of tomorrow for other musicians with disabilities and limb differences.
In the striking Purcell Room at London’s Southbank Centre, McCarthy plays excerpts from Schubert’s ‘Erlkönig’ arr. Liszt for piano arr. Zichy for left hand, and Bach’s Chaconne from Partita No.2 in D minor arr. Brahms for piano left hand.
