He wasnt alone most people have a hard time seeing who someone diffrent then how they first saw them. To digital underground he was still their rodie to Ice cube he was a back up dancer. Tupac has said many times that he was sick of not being seen as an equal or peer he felt he wasnt the little brother anymore that he was all grown.
