Before the revolution Ethiopia was a feudal country and the aristocracy held most of the land. After the revolution the land was given to the peasants who lived on it and the rights of women were vastly expanded.

EPRP was founded in German Democratic Republic in 1972 so they seem to have some marxist-leninist background but actually they act like trotskists : both dogmatics (anti-DERG when DERG liberated serfs from serfdom in 1975) and opportunists (allying with the anti-communist Eritrean Liberation Front, not even the People's Liberation Front of Eritrea which was pro-soviet at this time and is today in power and as at the time the main eritrean force)

DERG liberated serfs from serfdom, was paert of the communist international movement although some errors were commited. I have more respect for Siyad Barré in Somalia than for the TPLF althought he went anti-communist in the late 1970s. At least he did some good things.
