Interesting to note some of the film at the beginning, where they are comparing the Mark V to Allied M-3 Lee/Grant tanks, the negative is in the projector backward. The main gun on the Grant is on the left side of the hull, when in fact it was on the right. The Mark V driver's viewport and radioman's gun are on the wrong sides of the hull. This reversal of the negative appears throughout the film. The Mark V was a good tank, except that the transmission was inadequate for the weight of the vehicle, and the gasoline engine was underpowered for the size, and weight. Had the Germans been able to correct those issues, and then concentrated on Mark IV, and V production, instead of wasting resources on the latter tanks, they may have been able to survive a bit longer, but by the time the Mark V was in production, the handwriting was on the wall. It was just a matter of time.

not disagreeing, some footage is reversed (may have been better "teeth" on that side of the old film) but just to point out that the "Lee" version of the Grant had the main gun on the left side of the hull---otherwise it's nearly indistinguishable from the Grant in most other ways)

That tank looks like it's ahead of its time. The Panther tank looks like the Cold War era tanks that will begin to appear in the early 1950s and on. Also, it's neat to see actual footage of the Panther being alongside some Panzerkampfwagen IV Ausf H tanks. I'd like to see more photos (or filmings ) of that occurrence

Weapon systems like the Panther are exactly why saturation bombing both day and night was a necessity during dubbya dubbya two . Aluminum overcast equaled less than optimal manufacturing economy , i. e. , less than optimal Panthers thrown into the breach under duress and lacking that refinement and Mark upgrades not possible , because , the Allied Bomber Command was quite literally stomping their guts outs . Bottom line , war is very nasty business , World War Two was an WAR inhalation, zero quarter was given , nothing but the Black Flag . As it pertained to the strategic economy and the S.S. within the E.T.O. Head on over to the P.T.O. , with Big Mother Green and Her Killing Machine , inhalation was command all the way down to the individual . When the man portable flame thrower and the hand grenade is the order of the day , ALL , are casualties , especially the survivors .

So sad to see those snap shots of real times and all those lives lost and for what? I lost my grandfather in that war. 8 1/2 million Germans died, 20 million Russians, and 6 1/2 million Jews. Then there was the misery of the cold war all those country's that the Russians had no right to occupy. 75 years of misery.
@mikealvarez2322

I am greatful to your grandfather and all the men and women who fought tyranny and kept our country free. Your grandfather put his life on the line for something bigger than him. He gave his life for his family, his country, and his brothers-in-arms. He also sacrificed himself for you and all those that would come after him. My Dad enlisted right after Pearl Harbor. He was an American citizen by birth while the rest of his brothers and sister were born in Cuba. He was raised in Havana and had dual citizenship. He showed his birth certificate proving that he was an American citizen and was granted immediate entrance to the US. He could have stayed in Cuba and never seen himself in a US uniform, but he wanted to fight for his country even though he was raised in Cuba. I as asked him once why he would willing risk his life (he had recently married my mother). He said freedom is always worth defending and even dying for if it came to that. He never saw combat because he was nearly killed in an explosion that left him mildly handicapped for life. Freedom is never cheap and once lost takes generations to recover. So your grandfather's sacrifice was not in vain. I honor your grandfather & thank him for my freedom.

Seeing Germany’s innovative tanks and engineering almost makes you wonder how they lost the war. To little, to late. Or to much to late. If they had Panthers, Tigers, and ME262s in 1939-1940, they would have been unstoppable by 1943-44 I believe.

Wasn’t it the Tiger 2 the reason the Soviets built the IS tanks and the US built the Pershing’s?
@PanzerInsight
@PanzerInsight 3 жыл бұрын
The Pershing was more the result from the US Congress starting interfering into the tank modernization project because of the bigger German tanks, but in reality the bigger German tanks were extremely rare and the US Army was already busy with tank projects after the German tactics in the battle of France. For the mass production point, it's just fiction if they could figure out how to mass produce anything they wouldn't have needed the bigger tanks and probably the only one that would have been made was the Tiger and maybe the Panther but they wouldn't be on a mass production line, that would have been the Panzer IV, but the Germans even failed at making the Panzer IV a mass production vehicle, so it's really hard to say if it could even be done, and if it could they still wouldn't have won.

i find tanks without sideskirts looking better than the ones with.. tanks like the sherman(especially the jumbo and M4A1 version), the TIGER 2 and panthers..

The Panther was the best Medium tank of the war. People like to claim the sherman or T34 was but thats bs. Thats based on production alone and not the performace or offensive factors that the Panther had in spades after the initial models (A) bugs were rectified rather quickly.

The Panther is the precusor of the Leopard 1 and 2, not the Tiger tank. My favorite of tank in WW2 is the Tiger tank.

You could have had 10 hours of Panther footage if you included all the tank the Russians knocked out.

The panther was by far the best looking and sexiest beast of WWII. It just didn't look right with the Americans driving it. Kinda sad watching then fawn all over it like some magnificent beast killed on a hunting trip. These are my favorite armored vehicles of the period despite the few problems it had.
