A talk by Ramachandra Guha
April 6, 2019

On Sunday, 6th April 1919, Mohandas Gandhi organized countrywide protests against a pernicious piece of colonial legislation known as the Rowlatt Act. This satyagraha, observed with great vigour across India, enabled Gandhi to emerge as the most important leader of the freedom struggle, eclipsing Tilak, Annie Besant, Jinnah, and others older and (until then) more famous than him.
On the 100th anniversary of the Rowlatt Satyagraha, Ramachandra Guha explores its significance in the story of Gandhi’s life and in the history of modern India.
