When this song came out, I was living in the Bronx N.Y. and having a time trying to find my way. Things where, in my eyes very dark, kinda at the end of my rope. My beloved Mother saw in my eyes the despair I was feeling, she barely spoke English but pulled out this record and tells me as its playing how much she loves me.It's Been 27 years since she passed. God how I miss Moms.

I agree with you - I have known this tune since it first hit the markets long before 2/22/89 and it was never marketed as a religious tune that I know of but truly who cares - it is one of the best tunes ever written and free to be interpreted as one feels fit - just like any other form of art. Larry was the bass player for Sly and the Family Stone and the inventor of the "slap bass" technique - the Creator bestowed many talents on him - one was grace. Cheers

I can only imagine the sounds coming out of Larry Graham's Kingdom Hall especially with the new song arrangements. I was not a Witness when I first heard this song and just thought it was a love for a woman song but now knowing what I do, singing this song to the Most High fits perfect. It's what King David did and it's so good when a person has the talent to Praise Jah in their own words. Thanks, brother.
