This was the last time that Peter Brock "raced" at Bathurst before his sad passing. I find it extremely fitting that his last "Race" at Bathurst was in his favourite car, the A9X Hatchback. Rest in Peace Brockie, you are sadly missed but will never be forgotten.

@@FURYBrenton Um, first of all. Peter Brock wasn't a cheating prick. How can you cheat during a car race? Secondly, it's not funny that he crashed into a tree, that's a terrible accident that affected the lives of so many people. Both those close to him, and people who enjoy watching his racing. If you find stuff like that amusing, I suggest that you should go see a psychiatrist, because you have serious issues if that's the case.

I’ve always said that. At Bathurst I seem to remember them running the 2.6 ratio which I had in my vk calais and it was good for 100 ks in first gear. The first batch of a9xs ran that ratio. My brother in law still has an a9x four door fitted with that diff.

I need to point out that the A9X was running the wrong gear ratio's for Bathurst this day, which is why Skaife passes Brock so quickly down Conrod.. Totally our mistake in the preparation and sadly one we could not fix on the weekend. Nor would we get the chance to have it with the correct ratio with Brocks sad passing. The thing I love about this vid is that both Cam Mcconvile and PB were reasonably relaxed after the race but you could tell Mark Skaife was giving it everything,so much so he was out of breath afterwards!What they need to do now is do something similar with a V8 Supercar maybe a racing BMW M3 and a Sierra Cosworth preferably in Shell racing colours ie a Dick Johnson Sierra!

Brocks A9X was not in its original Bathurst configuration. The diff ratio used was a lower ratio than the Bathurst ratio which was used in 1979, that was why The SS road car easily overtook on the straight, McConville said he was doing 240kph, a 79 A9X Bathurst Torano would top 250kph, Brock was stuck on the rev limiter in top gear halfway down the straight.

@shnizalproductions I was under the impression that General Motors Holden while being Australian was in fact a subsidiary of GM USA this is why there is a startling similarity between the 57 BelAire and the FB-FC series. The Toranas are Variations of the Buick Skylark which was originally a cross between Chev and Pontiac model at the time. The A9X however was 100% Australian Designed as a Sports Sedan something that it indisputably did.

Don't forget that DTM car's are a tubular space frame with carbon body panels to resemble the original production car. Most of those cars weigh about 1000kg compared to 1350kg of the V8's. DTM car wheel bases are also often modified beyond the adjustable setup boundaries of the original production car... V8SC use the original production car monocoque body frame, heavier than space frame but it's more production based race car.

This wasn't the only lap Brock and McConville done, I was sitting at shell corner, at the time there was no mention what was going on but Brocky started from a standing start up near the pedestrian bridge at the chase and McConville started at the same time on the start line I'm guessing this was to figure out the margins for this run. The pinnacle of Torana development was the A9X. A better comparison (now or back in 2004) would be the current SS Commodore road car, current V8 Supercar Commodore and a 1984 VK Group C Commodore (if one is available) as Brock drove that year. The 2009 Bathurst race being 25 years since the 1984 race would be ideal....
@jasonkhoury43282 ай бұрын
That's a good point - that would've been a much more suitable comparison. And even if they got Brock to drive his 1980 race-winning commodore for comparison sake, but I guess the A9X is iconic and catches more intetest .. plus it would seem the A9X was his all-time favourite
@gp75motorsports15 жыл бұрын
Well it could be that OR valve float. Since they didn't have very good anti-float technology, the cars' engines tended to fall off a little bit more sharply past the ideal RPM range, though you're probably right because it was maxed out down the long straight.
@JBofBrisbane12 жыл бұрын
I thought it was because Brock knew that the A9X was in no condition to fang because of its age, and was taking it easy to bring it back in one piece. But the wrong diff ratio makes sense too.
