Pretty sure Beckett burned the ship to the ground. Until Jack and Davy Jones had a deal. Jones would bring the Wench from the Locker, in-exchange for 100 souls (each soul represents the slaves Sparrow freed from Beckett). However, the ship was entirely black, hence the name Black Pearl.

Mate, to clear your doubts of the compass 1. I think Jack bought the compass from Tia Dalma / Calypso, for his captain, when the captain died he gave it to Jack 2. speaking of the compass itself, it is something curious, because it has some rules: the compass points towards what you want the most, if you don't know what you want or if you know it but are scared to claim it as yours, the compass points in many directions ; you can lend it or give it to whoever you think needs or deserves it (that's why when Jack gave the compass to Will, Elizabeth, Beckett and Gibbs nothing happened) but if you renounce it WITHOUT GIVING IT A NEW OWNER (for example, getting rid of it or changing it for something material) the compass will release your greatest fear

It's lazy writing. They forgot that it was canon that Tia Dalma gave Jack the compass or they ignored it to make up this new stupid backstory, it also goes against Jack's orginal story where he was hired by Beckett as a privateer and only became a pirate because Jack refused to partake in slavery and was thus branded with the pirate mark and lost his ship (the wicked wench) which, after it was burned, turned into the Black Pearl... now PoTC 5 changed all that, Jack has always sailed as a pirate and got his compass from his dying captain for no damn reason other than PoTC 5 needing a storyline.

I came up with several headcanons after watching this movie, mainly because it had the most plotholes. Don't get me wrong I still enjoyed it but all in all I still consider it an unsatisfying end to the series. When I saw how successful Barbossa had become in this one I came up with the theory that Jack made a deal with Barbossa to give him the fleet that Gibbs stole in On Stranger Tides and in exchange Jack could keep the Pearl for himself. It's the only sense I can make as to why that fleet was never seen in this movie. One thing I think was rather clever about the character arcs in this movie was that even though Jack was presented as very down on his luck and really miserable while Barbossa became very successful, it was clear that both of them had clearly lost their way which puts them in the same place with eachother. They're on different paths but they're both lost. Barbossa's final scene was perfectly executed in my opinion, he finally found his real treasure in his daughter and his arc was fulfilled, he is by far my favourite character in this series :) This reaction was awesome, I'll definitely check out the full length reactions on patreon. It's been alot of fun rewatching my favourite franchise again :)
@davygravy58023 жыл бұрын
I like your theory about the fleet of ships that just went missing in the 5th film. Makes perfect sense to me. They really shouldn't have filmed this movie. Johnny Depp was not in the right mindset at the time. There is no Pirates of the Caribbean without Jack Sparrow, it's unfortunate that he wasn't in this one. Besides that, the second biggest issue with this movie is that it didn't feel like a Pirates movie unlike the last 4. On Stranger Tides had a lot of problems and whatnot, but it still felt like it was in the same universe and Jack was still Jack. I mean just take a look at how bright the 5th movie is compared to the others. It's just an awkward movie. It had such potential. I loved a lot of things about it, but it's just the worst one in the series.
@kotomori81723 жыл бұрын
@@davygravy5802 I absolutely agree that this film should have either been made years before or not at all, this came out nearly seven years after POTC 4.. If this was the final chapter to Jack Sparrows story, though i really hope it isn't, then we needed to see the real Jack Sparrow. I'm glad I'm also not the only one who noticed how awkward this movie was in parts but it straight up felt like there should have been another half an hour or so leading up to the final battle that were completely cut out. I think for the most part the characters were well done, Barbossa is always brilliant and Carina and Henry were good additions but there were alot of moments especially from Jack and Gibbs where they seemed completely out of character. It's been established in the other movies that alot of the pirates are actually very intelligent yet in this movie they were dumbed down for cheap jokes. It was also clear that the new directors didn't watch the other movies or at least didn't pay attention as if they did they would already know that the compass, an integral part of this movie, was given to him by Calypso and not some random captain. And that the Wicked Wench was given to Jack by Beckett before it became the Black Pearl. As enjoyable as I found it to be, I agree that this film should have been thought out better or shouldn't have been made :)

I also don't see why the whole set the dragons free thing was even placed in the story, it's pretty clear that nothing was keeping them there if they didn't want to be. There are many problems with this move. It retcons Many things. First being about where Jack got the Compass from. Also Retconning the whole 'Giving away the Compass' thing, cause he has given away the compass before. Twice even that I can think of off the top of my head. Second Movie, gave it to Elizabeth to find the Heart of Davy Jones, which will lead to saving Will. One could argue that is only Temporary and not really giving away tho, more of lending. Well that's why we have Number 2, the end of the last movie. He gives the Compass to Mr Gibbs, telling him "Your free now, Mate." Before they went on to the Climax of the movie. Not borrowed, but actually truly 100% giving it away to Gibbs to live his own life. He didn't know Gibbs would come back at the very end with all the other ship bottles. But there is 1 other thing. It Retcons The Flying Dutchmen! The Flying Dutchmen, is NOT a Curse. It is LITERALLY a Divine Sacred Job to Ferry the Dead from the Ocean to the Afterlife. The barnicles and turning into a Fish, only happens as a PUNISHMENT when you NEGLECT THE JOB. When Davy Jones turns into a monster, it's cause after the first 10 years, he went back to shore to find Calypso not there waiting for him. And cause of that he refused to do his Job, Ferrying the Dead to the afterlife. But as seen at the end of the third Movie he DOES do his job, and Elizabeth is there waiting for him! Will is doing the Job, Ferrying the Dead, he wouldn't be turning into a barnacle monster! Secondly, it is NOT a CURSE. It's a Divine Job, a Literal Foundational Requirement of Reality. That's why 'There must always be a Captain', it literally is required by Reality. It would be like Removing Gravity. It would fuck up existence itself. Humans might 'View' it subjectively as a curse, if they don't like being the captain, but it is NOT a curse, no more than your job at work being a curse cause your boss is a dick and you hate working there.

And we've seen for ourselves she is, in fact, a super natural Goddess with Supernatural powers, even above Davy Jones, and know from both of them she is indeed an actual goddess and gave Davy Jones the Divine Job. And we've seen from the ending of the 3rd movie, Will is indeed doing his Job, and has no reason to Neglect them. Unfortunately, Salazar had his sword and was clearly ready to kill anyone in his way to reach Jack. He was going to kill Carina or knock her off and Barbossa saw that. Could they have done it so that Barbossa could have kicked to stabbed Salazar and still hold on? Probably.

As a standalone movie this one is not bad and I did enjoy it but in relation to the others (especially 1-3) I do have some problems... First of all for me it really felt like they just took concepts from the first three and put it in here hoping it would have the same success as the others like undead enemies (at least not pirates this time) who could not step on land... The second being the characters especially Jack not really acting like themselfs. Jack was weird and a drunk yes but he was also very intelligent which got him out of most situations although he didn't often show it. Jack in this movie was pretty much reduced to being drunk and not really doing much... But on the pther side I really loved Barbossa's and Capitán Salazar's characters. Salazar just looks epic and I love the way he speaks with his accent and switching between English and Spanish "Honor? What honor, hombré? What honor?"

Fun movie with pretty cool effects on the undead crew, considering we already had a full skeleton crew in part one. They did great on portraying that most of them still seem to be floating in water (the hair was done fantastically). The way they retconned the lore of the compass was a bit sad though. They could have introduce Salazar differently, considering Jack had given away the compass numerous times in Parts 1-3 (even Beckett had it at one point!)
@pugtie46953 жыл бұрын
12:35 Thank you! I'm sure it's a retcon that his captain got it from calypso and he gave it to Jack but the movie never explains it that way so I don't know.

That guillotine scene honestly had me laughing in the theatre, I had to try to hide it, as to not ruin the quiet for everyone else in the room. Same goes for Jack’s “wedding,” tried to hide my laughter, so people wouldn’t get annoyed. I think with the whole compass thing is also weird. But I’ve heard that some people came up with a theory that Jack’s captain gave it to him, he lost it, which later fell into Tia Dalma hands somehow, and she gave it back to him, with him trading something for it back of course. Btw this movie isn’t as good as the first 3 movies, but I think it was a lot better than the 4th one. And my favorite from the whole franchise is the 2nd one.
@ianmitchell59792 жыл бұрын
Part of me thinks him trading the compass for rum was actually him purposefully bringing back his greatest fear, as he was desperate for adventure. If so, then that's more in character than we'd think.

@ItsTotally Cody! I have a theory: he got the compass from the former captain, lost it to Tia Dalma/ Calypso and bought it back from her later as the say in Dead mans chest. The reason it didnt unleash Salazar before is probably because he let people borrow it from him but when he used it as payment/trade for stuff it unleashes them. I think this is a fitting theory, i might be wrong though

jack get the compass from the dying captain and say "don't betray it" then jack lost it, tia dalma found the compass and gave it to jack.But in this movie jack betray the compass by trading it with rum,freeing salazar.He trade it because he doesnt want it anymore and i think he giving up?.he must kept the compass until he died..

Alot of ppl are confused over the compass, if you read the books you would understand what happened, tia dalma gave jack the compass for captain Morgan, Morgan simply passed it down to jack before he died...so yea she gave jack the compass but it wasn't for him.

Since everything was “Franchise universes” by the 10’s, Disney literally advertised a “Finale trilogy” (with the adventures of Will Turner Jr.) when it came out-And audiences responded “We don’t THINK SOOOO...” Or as I put it at the time, “The movie where somebody finally sticks a giant fork into Jack Sparrow.” 😅
