In 2012, OUR HOUSE was approached by an independent filmmaker with an inspiring vision: to capture the unique power of providing grief support to children. The resulting documentary, One Last Hug (…and a few smooches): Three Days at Grief Camp, offered unprecedented, up-close coverage of the healing journeys that unfold at Camp Erin. Viewed over a million times on HBO, this film received widespread acclaim, has been used in hundreds of trainings for grief support programs across the nation, and even won the Emmy for Best Children’s Documentary.
Today, 12 years later, the young campers profiled in the film have grown into remarkable young adults, yet the support they found all those years ago has remained a guiding force in their lives. One camper, Cade, returned this year to volunteer at Camp Erin LA, supporting new campers as they began their own journeys through grief. The clip above is from the sequel filmed this summer at Camp Erin LA, revisits Cade’s story, revealing the lasting impact of OUR HOUSE’s grief support programs. It’s a powerful reminder of how, even in the hardest times, hope endures and can continue to shape lives in the most profound ways.
