As a new V7 850 owner I appreciate your service to the Moto Guzzi community. Anybody with half a brain knows that knowledge is power. Fanboys who are angered by honest, helpful unbiased feedback don't have a clue.

What's annoying is when dealerships treat a complaint as if you are the only person in the world who has come across the problem, when the internet is full of people saying the same thing. The correct response should be we know of the issue, keep riding the bike and if there is a engine problem, we've got your back. They won't, in the off chance there is a real engine management flaw.
@Jim-nm1en5 ай бұрын
The check engine light coming on on any bike whether brand new or not should never be ignored as it could end up being a terminal situation and probably would have cancelled out your warranty had you not complained about it. As for the time it took to be fixed, that is deplorable. You did the right thing to complain to the dealer about it. Glad it was eventually sorted out for you.

Appreciate you telling us the honest truth. Not enough people are ready to do that. If I had bought a new bike and had that happen I would have been fuming. You don't hand over all that money just to find you have a defective product.

No doubts, a brand new product should work from day 1. Only bananas are allowed to mature after arrival at the customer's place. I picked up a brand new V7 Corsa 4 weeks ago. I experienced strong vibrations not correlated to the engine speed. The dealer found some problem with the front tyre and replaced it. That didn't solve it. I suspected the joints in the drive shaft, since the vibrations were the strongest at zero power, or running down a hill with pulled clutch. I'll go pick it up tomorrow after the first service, and the mechanic said it was the rear wheel rim that caused the problem. I guess there was some issue with the transport, even though I live only 250km from the factory. In addition, the high beam was flickering on the highway in heavy rain. I sincerely hope that was all, and it will now work flawlessly.
@mikaelpettersson23895 ай бұрын
After the first service and exchange of the rear wheel, it now runs like a dream. So happy it could be solved without fuzz! My dream bike didn't turn out to be a nightmare! 😏

I think you are quite correct in all you say. I would be so pissed off if my brand new bike threw up a fault right from the start. It would be so disappointing and take the joy out of the whole event. I love this bike and glad you got it sorted, eventually.

Well, I've also had an 850 V7 for three years (which spent 5 weeks at the dealer in 2022 while Guzzi sorted out the mapping) and love it. On the basis that I've just bought a Guzzi Mandello V100S in Verde 2121 (750 miles in and loving it) I'm going to say you've done the same!

I had the same check engine light come on my Euro5 2021V85TT Centenario when I went to overtake and go into the higher rev range, but luckily when it went in for its annual service the software upgrade was available and sorted the issue and improved the lean fuelling as well, anyway can’t believe the negative comments you received for saying the way it was! Looking forward to see what you get next. Guessing V100S in green? So from your comments the BMW will be going soon too lol 👍

My guess for your new bike is either Aprilia Tuono 660 if you go for a lightweight fun bike, or a Moto Guzzi V100 Stelvio if you go for comfort on bad roads!

Seems like a super smooth ride with seamless performance. Guzzi is right on with its styling. If you like an r model bmw, you will love a guzzi. @kevindarkstar5 ай бұрын
Nope, you are entitled to expect a brand new bike to not have these niggles and the manufacturer should take ownership of the problem and fix it, and with a simple software firmware update it should be dealt with promptly, given that it should not go out like that, best of luck with whatever you get next 👍🏻

I bought a used 2018 V7iii Milano with only 700 miles on it. According to the dealer, it was bought new by one of their service techs. Soon after I bought it, the check engine light came on. Took it back and they diagnosed it as a faulty oxygen sensor in the left exhaust pike. They replace this (at my cost since the bike was out of warranty), and the light went out. The bike has also had problems of intermittent stalling for no reason at a stop, and intermittent start button not working. Both very frustrating and dangerous conditions since, on several occasions, the bike stalled at a busy red light and I could not re-start it! Haven't decided yet if I'm going to keep it or not, but it will be hard to sell with these unresolved issues, so I feel stuck with it at this point.

I had a new V7 and owned it for just over 3 years. Under warranty I had 2 electrical problems fixed. Just out of warranty the rev counter needle fell off. Also on one service they upgraded my ECU for free which made the bike a little more sporty, but made the throttle response jerky. I part exchanged the bike for an Interceptor 650 for very little money and have had no problems at all with it in 4 years. I loved the V7 and had always wanted to own a Guzzi. Unfortunatley I won't buy another Italian bike as my Aprilia Pegaso 650 broke down up a mountain in France and I had to fly home.

The service ‘spanner’ light came on my then-new 850 Stone about 100 miles into my holiday to Cornwall , not long after picking the bike up. I stopped, rang the dealer by the side of the road, they told me not to worry about it and they’ll turn it off at the next service. So you’re not alone. Turns out my bike was fine, just the light telling me there’s a fault…was at fault. Your next bike? Lighter than the BMW 1250, built for touring…if I was being facetious I’d suggest a V85TT or Mandello. Or maybe I’m just one of those fanboys?! Whatever it is, good luck with it and keep posting 🏍️

@johnflano697319 күн бұрын
First of all. No need to apologize for anything. If I had a check engine light on a new bike I would be very grumpy to say the least. I would be STOMPIN right back in to the dealership! I really love the new Stelvio. I have owned a couple of Guzzi's back before rider aids and ABS and I was younger and crazier and I abused them both.... 1 was a 850 T-3 the other was the 1000 Lemans..... I only changed batteries, fork springs and oil... all the oil... and tires and a few bulbs..... I wish I still had either one of them. In my personal opinion the Guzzi's are the best of the Italian marquees and I would say better than the damn troublesome BMW'S that I owned..... don't get me started. I grew up on bikes. My first shredder was the old classic Honda XR-75...As I grew up so did the bikes.... in the beginning just Japanese except for a Hodaka ace 100....The first European bike was a damn Bultaco then a slightly better HUSQVARNA... very nice riding bike if you were lucky enough to start it.... left side kicker.. I honestly don't know what I was thinking. Later I would hit 16 and get my bike license and I had a Honda 750-F Super sport and my family rode out of San Francisco and did a north American road trip. My brother had a matching bike with me and my parents two upped on a Honda Gold wing interstate. We rode for 46 days and 44 of them we rode through torrential down pours. After that I went on to have a ton of different bikes. The Guzzi's were part of the collection and one Harley 😡 a couple of BMW's and now here in Beautiful Gorgeous Bangkok Thailand I roll on the legendary lane splitter, The HONDA SH-150 😅 i actually love the thing. When I first moved to Vietnam everyone rides 125cc things and I said I would NEVER be seen dead or alive on a sit through scooter....... well. when in Rome.... err... Vietnam 🇻🇳 you do as the locals do until you find some proper big bikes.... WR-450😅 When I moved to Thailand i sold 3 motorcycles and on Kymco 164cc bullet proof scooter. Now my little SH-150 gets me around town nicely. It will sit at 120 kph all day long no problems. I seriously looking at dropping bank for the new Stelvio soon. I am not a brand loyalist, just a life long motorcycle enthusiast. Bikes should bring us joy, happiness and adventure and not break down. So, If for some reason I don't by the Guzzi.. I will see what my Japanese options are with a shaft drive in the ADV category. 🤔 I personally despise chains. But.... now that I think about it 🤔 The only new Shaft drives adv bikes are NOT Japanese, damn it. The ol Tenere was a great dependable shafter as was the Honda VFR 1200X tourer... oh well... looks like a Stelvio.... don't even think about the big Triple Tiger... Triumph scares me.. 😅 Guzzi's make me feel comfortable and happy. At the end of the day that is the feeling everyone wants from a bike. Sorry for the long caffeine induced Ramble. Good luck with your next Bike and nice videos BTW 😁✨🌴🌴🙏

I seriously thought about a V7 (no chrome) as a first big bike in the last couple of months. I passed my Mod tests on a 750gs so ended up that route as would still be looking half way thru 2024 before I settled. BUT... my heart was really wanting a 2024 V85TT. So maybe in a couple of years when I retire, that may be the bike for me. I love my BMW but I feel the MG would have been a little less aggressive attitude without quickshifter and in a different class. I really hope the buyer views your stuff online and really appreciates your positivity. If it were me i think I'd find peace in this. Who wouldn't be peed off buying something and then having an issue with it. It's only natural. Those negative folks saying other things obviously have been blessed to have no issues with anything in their lives to date. It takes an edge off a perfect experience and that's what you don't want. Looking forward to your new ride!

I bought a BMW R1250RT a few years ago. Check engine light came on early in my ownership experience. After 10 weeks at the shop all they could say was "electrical anomaly". I couldn't risk that on a planned 8000 mile ride in the middle of the western U.S.. Traded it for a Goldwing. I am giving BMW another chance with a R1250R. I also have a Mandello V100. So far, I am really enjoying it. The transmission is clunky, but I can live with it. I discovered a secret about the handlebar vibrations. The black Guzzi crash bars work well as vibration dampeners.

In fact this is one advantage of modern classic bikes over the sportier ones: they handle similarly when you have a pillion and you can as well enjoy the ride the same. Having a pillion on an ultimately sport bike just ruins the way it handles.

I've noticed the Guzzi V7 for a long time. I'm thinking about buying it even though I haven't ridden a motorcycle in over 36 years. Now that I'm 63 years old and retired, I want to get back on a motorcycle that suits me. It reminds me of my last motorcycle, a Simson Sport - AWO 425 from the 60s, because it also has such a nice bollard sound. Here in Germany it is often referred to as a pleasure motorcycle because it is not fun to race at all. On the contrary: with a motorcycle like this you should not only have fun but also be seen and heard. Kindly regards from Germany

I have heard many stories from over the years that Piaggio are a nightmare to be a dealer for. I rejected a brand new Vespa 150PX in 2016 under the Sale of Goods Act that was showing rust on various parts. Wannabe rider here, have loved your videos on the V7, would love to have one. I suspect MG don’t understand the software on their bikes as they probably don’t make it! I tried the V7 last year and I felt in love with it. This bike is alive, easy, charismatic. Just great and different. I’m just a bit worried about reliability, and the fact that there is no more dealer close to Brussels (closest is 100km away). I fully agree that you should make the distinction between the bike (or car) and its brand. I own a Tesla and I don't agree at all with Musk’s opinions. But the car is fantastic, I enjoy driving it every day. So, yes, the V7 will certainly replace my old 19 yo BMW. If I find a dealer...

If you aren't getting that support it puts a very dark shadow in your mind about the machine you purchased. Dealer access and support played a big part in my decision to purchase a 2022 Kawasaki W800. I would probably love a V7 but there are no dealers in my area. The W800 has not disappointed me in any way. It's great easy to ride and easy to own motorcycle that does everything I want a motorcycle to do. Your milage may very. BJ

Mais la nouvelle v85tt est belle 😅 ( mais chère pour une fiabilité pas toujours éprouvé). Got to admit I was mortified when Piaggio took them over, as the way they had obliterated the history of the Gilera marque when they took it over made me fear for Guzzi's future. What you said in your summing up about company policies has made me perhaps consider a V7 at some point. :)

New bikes not giving access to the error codes is a real problem, I have a friend with a v85tt that has a similar issue, this is an adventure style bike for going on long journeys and suddenly you have no idea why the engine light is on, therefore another trip back to the dealer to check what code it's displaying, only to be told it's a throttle response issue or a oil pressure issue or a cruise control fault, all of which are no longer present. Therefore all confidence in the bike is lost and the round the world tour is on hold for ever as these issues are not likely to ever get fixed as they are so intermittent. For me new bikes have become overly complicated, in the old days the only light you would ever see is the oil light, no other warnings at all. The only way around this is to buy an obd2 reader and even that can't reset the engine light, it will just tell you what error you have, unless you pay out over £300 for a specific piaggio one. Manufactures need to at the very least offer a diagnostic on the bike to display the error severity, so at least you know if the bike is ok to continue riding. I love Moto Guzzi but they are really not convincing me to buy a new one anytime soon, along with this issue is the constant changing of dealerships that can service them. My guess would be you are buying the V100.
@GixxerRider19915 ай бұрын
@Paulcooper5610 You can tell the severity of an engine light by common sense and reasoning. If you're not hearing any abnormal noises and the bike is otherwise running fine, fluids are at proper levels, etc. it's very likely not serious. If the engine sounds like a roll of quarters in a washing machine, or it If can't stay running, it's time to phone a friend or a tow truck. Long distance touring is a game of no guarantees. If you're not prepared to be broken down on the side of the road for any number of reasons, you have no business setting out in the first place. I agree that dealers should make it easier for riders to read codes, but how will that help you when you're in the middle of nowhere?

If a company has a bad ethos - the Apple ones you mention are prime examples - it does affect my feelings towards the products and would taint my potential enjoyment of it, so I don't buy their products. I certainly don't feel that I'm punishing myself. There are plenty of alternatives to choose from.

I'm guessing you have bought a Aprilia Tuareg, the blue and silverr one. Cheers!

I wish I had given this bike a look before buying my '24 Speed Twin 900. I'm very happy with it, but this may have been even more to my liking. Maybe I'll find one I can test ride someday.

Is there an OBD port on the bike that users could plug asimple bluetooth dongle like a Carista into and read codes themselves?
@CGRidesMotorcycles4 ай бұрын
There is. I don't think it's a standard OBD - it's the smaller variety so you need an adapter. It wouldn't have helped much with this situation, but I'm sure there are plenty of other things which could be DIY fixed.

My guess is that your new bike will be a 2024 V85 TT (Euro 5+) in Rosso Fuji

Beautiful bike! I had a 73 850 eldorado😊

Those were far more beautiful and a better quality machine imo.. I owned a BMW R75/5 and my buddy owned a black 73 Eldorado. The year was 1985 and we were both 19.. I wouldn't touch a European motorcycle made after 2000. IMO all the Euro brands are living on past glory. Same for their cars. They are generally overly complex and unreliable. MT07 / 09 are miles ahead of any naked Euro bikes.

I am 46 and I dont have a bike licence (yet). I used to drive moped as a kid. Im in love with this. The feel from the vids, the looks ... and I really dream owning and riding it. But people tell me that I should start with 125ccm. What do you think? Should I start with 125 ccm or is this bike beginner friendly?
@benedikt483 ай бұрын
Hi Nambr, well I can't tell you with what you should start, but the limit of 125ccm is to profane in my opinion. I started 5 years ago with a RE Classic 500 with 27 PS. Absolutely lovely for beginners. Have not ridden bigger bikes yet, but I consider to switch to the Guzzi V7 now. But i think you might start even with the guzzi, if you approach it with the due respect. No need to climb the engine sizes up like a ladder 😊

I did my test and went straight onto a 650. We’re all different. You have to go with what you feel comfortable with.

Same issue with my vespa gts, its bad fuel. Always the bad fuel just leave the gas tank open and refuel it. it will go away

Maybe next bike will be Aprilia Tuono 660?

Change the tank design and I might consider it better than Triumph Bobber. 👍

I had the same bike which I bought from new and sold it three months later. Too many faults and quality issues. A great bike to ride, but terrible to own.

Maybe the check engine light is a false indication and only a wiring problem

It was an issue with the map. Moto Guzzi revised it and my bike got updated. Fine since.

@@CGRidesMotorcycles Modern sensors & software that sample everything thousands of times a second will probably generate codes that aren't an issue to the engine or won't be noticeable on a dyno and definitely impossible for the rider to notice. But as you say, an engine fault light will impact the value at resale, especially a sale to a private buyer. Personally, it wouldn't bother me ... if the oil pressure is good (and why wouldn't it be?), the spark plugs are showing a good colour and the engine pulls well through the rev range (under acceleration or just cruising), then I wouldn't hesitate to buy the bike. Why? Because it's one of the BEST LOOKING Guzzis ever made (colour scheme, chrome accents) and it should just keep on keeping on. If the human body was a machine, it would be showing fault codes all the time :)

Of all the fan boys of motorcycle brands, the worst I've encountered were from Moto Guzzi...I did a survey on various Facebook groups on known problems on a bobber v9, all the feedback was positve ..so I bought a Moto Guzzi V9 bobber, within a 1 week had a oil leak, and other normal quirks associated and considered normal on Moto Guzzi...hot back to the keyboard warriors, and to my surprise I was "killed" by comments like you were!! Did a better research and all my problems were well known...love the bike, but its quality is not good you have to take care of it really well, otherwise rust and corrosion will be your best friend!! I've had many brands never seen anything thats rusts as bad as moto guzzi!!

I find it astonishing that people will dismiss a warning light as nothing to worry about! Just ignore it? I'd certainly not buy a bike off anyone who is that blasé about that! And the Euro5 comment was obviously made by someone who has not owned another Euro5 bike! The 2021 Honda CB500X , the 2022 Triumph Street Scrambler 900 that I've owned recently and my current 2022 Triumph Tiger 850 Sport, all Euro5 and not one of them displaying any kind of engine warning lights during my ownership! Unfortunately mate, you'll always get the keyboard warriors showing up when you're trying to do anything online. Good luck with your next bike.
