The tone is set for the scene when she pulls the chains out of solid rock while chained up in the way she is and the entire fight continues from there. Korra is an absolute beast and she's fighting like a cornered one in her avatar state. I agree that it's the most intimidating depiction of the avatar state.

And she did that without metalbending the chains, as they were made out of platinum. (Also where the hell do they get so much platinum? I'd really like to know.) It was just raw avatar state strength.

God it's nice to get some positive content for Korra. Also, an interesting part of this scene: this avatar state was kind of unique in 2 ways. First, I think it was one of the only, if not THE only, times Korra used it but didn't do so on purpose. This was fully the avatar state kicking into survival mode and overriding her higher reasoning in an attempt to get her the hell out of there. She resisted going into it at all, so by the time she enters it her survival instincts have overwhelmed her. Second is that everything we see her do is just her and Raava. There's no more connection at this point to her past lives to hone and harness the power. This is basically just the rawest, most unfiltered version of Korra we see all series. And in her greatest peril, reduced to only her most fundamental instincts and personality traits, what do we see from this raw core of her being? She fights. She throws every punch she has in her and then a few more at this bastard who's caused her and the people she cares about so much pain. Could not ask for a better setup to demonstrate a character like her's strongest traits.

That's so true. I forgot that a big part of the power of the Avatar State is the fact that you basically gain the power of ALL PREVIOUS AVATARS. Which makes you honestly a semi god. But Korra's Avatar State has none of that powerup, that's crazy. If Korra still had access to her past lives, Zaheer would've gotten absolutely COOKED in this fight like Ozai was lmao

My favorite scene is Korra metal bending the poison out of her with Toph helping. It's such a huge learning point for her, and it's the start of her healing the mental parts of her trauma. She heals physically during the montage in a previous episode, but this scene is when she starts to truly process what she's been through. The greatest part is that even though it's an incredible, triumphant moment, Korra isn't done yet. She still has a few flash backs and feels she has to confront Zaheer later on. It shows how healing is a process, and that even if you aren't 100%, that doesn't mean you haven't had successes that are worth celebrating. This scene and the others around Korra processing her trauma are incredibly meaningful to me. They've helped me in processing some of my own trauma. It's why Korra is my favorite characters in both series. So much of her is relatable to me, and it's her flaws and challenges that stand out so much.

My favorite scene is when Korra went alone to Aang's temple to confront Amon. He had her, and let her go so she wouldn't be a martyr but told her to her face that he would come for her last. Korra was always hot heated and believed in handling conflict with fists and confrontation. She had to reconcile that she was afraid for the first time ever.

My favorite scene is the air nomad ceremony. Just seeing Korra go from being happy for Jenora to being devastated by Tenzin's speech. His speech while very admirable and altruistic. A "we will help you until you're ready" speech through her damaged psychological state turns into the world does, can, and will continue without you. You're not needed. Korra hearing that had reinforced that feeling of failure that she can't measure up. That others have to pick up the slack. Something that she sees as the avatar that should be unnecessary. But it kicks off her arc of finding herself and redefining what the avatar is and would be. Something that all the Avatar media tends to reiterate is that the current incarnation of the Avatar may have a duty to the world but they have to figure out how they fulfill it. You see her change from this point on for better and worse. It conveyed a very real feeling that I really connected too and it was an awesome seed planted for the next season.

It really captures all aspects of her struggles and with a beautiful soundtrack and visuals it really hits home for me with the (what I see as) the completion of korras trauma arc. What I find interesting about this scene is how Korra is fighting. She's using *her* styles and techniques. One of two things is happening, either Korra is retaining control with the full force of the Avatar state (something Aang didn't achieve during his fight with Ozai) or the Avatar spirit (the collective knowledge of *all* past Avatars) is deciding her method is the best option.

One problem I have is that Zaheer never uses his martial arts skills on their own. Zuko said he could "take down any bender" BEFORE he got air bending, but we never see any evidence of that outside of ludicrous precautions that were taken to keep him imprisoned. I might not say it’s my favorite scene (I don’t know which that would be, hard to choose) but one of the best scenes is when Tenzin is fighting the Red Lotus. It was a moment in The Legend of Korra where I felt things quite deeply, a moment to rival the most intense and emotional scenes in The Last Airbender. Tenzin is one of the best characters, and you can feel the writers’ respect for him there, even as he is beaten to a breaking point. The slow panning away gets me every time. Tenzin is a force to be reckoned with, but even he cannot withstand them all at once. So, finally, the writers shift the focus and allow him to lose with dignity. His last words in that scene “Not as long as I am still breathing” is so heart-wrenching, and makes you truly fear for his life. It is all so well-written that, though I don’t enjoy watching it, I feel it is one of the best scenes in the series.

Yeah Tenzin was without doubt a worthy successor of Aang's airbending mastery. You can really tell that he was trained by Aang in his prime and like Zuko and Azula, his descent from an Avatar has resulted in him being innately powerful regardless of skill. And then when it came down to him vs the Red Lotus, we saw that the serene sweet tempered (once you get to know him) tutor was actually downright fucking ruthless. When it comes to protecting the avatar or the legacy of the Air Nomads, his father's legacy, he *does not* fuck around. "I will never let you get to Korra." "Unfortunately, you don't have a choice." *"Yes I do."*

Many people misunderstood that scene with Tenzin against Red Lotus. The Red lotus only hit Tenzin with basic attacks and hardly were trying, they're main goal was to break Tenzin down and hope he tells where Korra located. It's more of violent interrogation from the Red Lotus. If the Red Lotus were serious, they would killed him right then and there.
@wafflingmean4477
@wafflingmean4477 2 жыл бұрын
@@BiG-JuPO1O1 I could not disagree more. Yes, once they realised they were going to beat Tenzin, they went easy on him. But before that they were not taking chances. Tenzin nearly defeated the Red Lotus in a 4v1, and likely would have beaten them if P'li had not intervened. The last thing they would have done with an opponent that dangerous is go easy on him when he's beating them.

I'm not sure I could pick a definite favourite, but the bit where Zaheer "becomes wind" is awesome. The subversion of the normal path to enlightenment by him not letting go of his worldly attatchment, but having it ripped away from his is just brilliant and fits with a theme that I think is present in Korra, which is that the pre-established ideas and philosophies of bending, and the wider world of Avatar, aren't absolute and that people are able to find power in thier own way.

But Korra ripping the stones out of the wall surprised long enough to take out Ming Hua, and then Ghazan was even more surprised that one of them actually took the hit. I like many scenes in Season 4, first half especially. I really want to point out Korra's first fight against Kuvira. She bended the poison out, she met her friends, she healed, right? And she is not doing really well, she is rusty, but she seems to be winning at the end... And then Korra sees that chained version of her again. Because her trauma wasn't just the poison, it was because of how hurt she was by everything Zaheer and otheer villains did to her and her friends. Her seing "avatar Korra" instead of Kuvira also seems like a paralel to the ending of the series, with Korra and Kuvira portrayed in a mirror thingy, like the one from s2 where it was Korra and other Avatars.

My favorite scenes (which I realize doesn't fit the requirements of just one scene, but their are too many!) are definitely the metalbending ones. Especially Suyin's and Kuvira's scenes, the bending is just so elegant and the animation is just ... chef's kiss. If I had to pick one, it'd probably be the Suyin-Kuvira duel on the giant laser.

Something I love about this scene is how Korra truly is at rock bottom. She has no past lives assisting her, she’s moments from death, plus she believes Zaheer killed her father. It’s the third time her very status as Avatar is going to be taken from her, when that’s all she ever wanted. This fight isn’t some grandiose good vs evil struggle for the fate of the world, it’s Korra going out with a FIGHT. She explicitly threatens to kill the Red Lotus and it’s clear from this fight she is TRYING to. Which is something we hadn’t seen yet in either LOK or ATLA, and I think it makes the scene all the more powerful.

I also like how utterly SAVAGE Korra's fighting style is in this. No finesse, no strategy, no thoughts. After everything Zahir has done and after he has killed the Avatar and ended the whole cycle (in her mind) and now that even her body is failing her on her quest for vengeance she is just rage incarnate and it is portrayed so beautifully. Favourite scene? Not sure. Must be something with Kuvira probably. Her metalbending is utterly gorgeous (as is she), her authority and presence are always awe inspiring. I *do* wonder why this wasn't on the main channel? Not high enough quality for you? "Just" sitting down and talking about the scene basically

I know I'm not him, but I'd guess the reason it's not on the main channel is kind of your last sentence. It seems that recently the main channel has been focused on more formalized video essays, either exploring an idea or theme in storytelling or doing a deep dive into a particular technical element of writing. This shorter, sort of "off the cuff" style differs from what he's been doing on the main channel that it might either upset the algorithm or just differ from the "brand" he's been developing there.

The very final episode with korra finally saving the world and dealing with the problem by talking, and empathising with the Koveara and getting over her trauma by not fighting your self but by giving in to the parts of your life you may not like, it also represents a nice antithesis from the beginning where she is constantly fighting and now she is wise and a full avatar, like the reverse of Angus story

I love seeing the changes that have developed in the world within Korra’s timeline. It’s the not-so-subtle changes that always influence my favorite scenes. Ancient traditions turned to Pro-bending competitions, Nations at war turned to triad gangsters, the rise of the Metal Clan, philosophies that challenge the White Lotus. That’s why the first episode will always be one of my favorites. We are thrown into Republic City and quickly introduced to so many new concepts plus I love seeing how satisfied Korra is after completely trashing those gangsters not knowing that she’s about to get arrested. 😸 It clearly shows her disposition and the struggles she will be facing throughout the series. For me, it’s as enjoyable as it was the first time these concepts were introduced in the show.

OKAY GUYS. i figured out what my favorite LOK scene is. Aang’s kids vs the red lotus. That scene in the air temple where Tenzin goes all out for the air nation hits DIFFERENT. And the stakes feel absolutely massive. In the course of this fight we get Bumi air bending in a very fun yet fulfilling way. Kya puts up an amazing fight. But Tenzin takes the cake showcasing ferocity amidst adversity. Best scene imo

I don't think I'll have much agreement here, but my favorite scene would probably be at the end of season 2, when Jinora helps to show Raava is inside Vaatu, and then Korra pulls her out and purifies Unalaq with the technique he taught her. This scene, like season 2 as a whole, is _not_ well-written and is rife with problems, but something about it is just always so powerful to me, it hits every time. (In fairness, the score is doing most of the heavy lifting, but still.)

Love this fight. This whole episode is amazing. The best of the four Korra finales. Hmm. Picking a favorite scene is tough. I think I'll go with the office confrontation between Korra and Tarrlok in Book 1, that leads to an amazing water fight, and ultimately, the blood-bending reveal that made me lose my sh$@! I never really thought they'd bring that back! And overall I thought the Equalist politics of the first season where the most interesting.

Korra vs Poison + Zaheer Korra disadvantages in this fight 1) She was poisoned 2) She was hallucinating 3) It took great amount of energy just to keep up with Zaheer 4) She had platinum chain on arm (+ weight) 5) Zaheer flying speed is impressive too, he just flew past her and blew her off the mountain. 6) She lose control in Avatar State (3 proofs) 1. Avatar State is defensive mechanism and forcely triggered Avatar State impossible to control 2. Did you had question why she follow Zaheer and didn't went to Kya for healing? Because she lose control in Avatar State and she chased after Zaheer 3. Korra 2 times saw father when she was in the Avatar State but when Sue takes out poison she doesn't remember anything and she says "Dad you alive?" "Mercury is toxic and negatively affects many organ systems. It absorbs into the body through the skin or through inhalation, and exposure to it can easily be fatal. Mercury occurs in many forms; it can either exist as a compound or as pure elemental mercury. Some effects of mercury poisoning include pain, dry lips, sweating, weakness, insomnia, depression, and hallucinations, all of which Korra had." Don't forget Korra (AVATAR) is the regular human who has The God Light Spirit inside her. She should died in that cave but Raava gives great amount of power to Korra for survive, but at the last Zaheer damages Korra to much and because of that Korra physically dies (She was in Avatar State coma, like Aang in Iceberg) When Korra was in tornado she woke up for a little time this means Raava handled this poison but she was defeated because she lose a lot energy on fight and Zaheer did great damage to Korra. When Sue take out poison, Korra was complitelly good (She was not in coma or dead), Raava did a great job xD

I always pictured this scene as a "Going Bezerk" moment. Unless im forgeting a moment (becasue this was over 10 years ago), is the first time we saw Avatar state Kora after the end of season 2 and her conection to the previous avatars being broken. This is the raw power of the avatar with NONE of the acumilated wisdom and control, just Kora focoused on a single goal, KICK THIS WIND BAG'S TEETH IN! Makes me curious if the avatar series continued, Kora being the only spirit to draw expirences from, how that would affect a new avatar being the first in what's esentaly a new cycle of avaters after her.
@DLxxx
@DLxxx 2 жыл бұрын
Korra's anger at Zaheer is punctuated even more by what she said at the beginning of the episode. "The moment I break out of this, none of you will survive!" From her perspective, he's trying to end the Avatar cycle (and wants her to feel like the ultimate failure for it), kidnapped the airbenders, and just killed her father in front of her. All that, in addition to her facing those hallucinations pf her former enemies telling her the world doesn't need.. So she not only needs to make Zaheer pay, she's also fighting to prove that he (and by extension Amon, Unalaq, and Vaatu) is wrong about her being unnecessary in the world. It's no wonder she was able to focus her iron clad will into fighting Zaheer despite the poison actively killing her.

Sorry but i feel like you have fundamentally misunderstood this scene. I think what's important to note about this scene is that this is not Korra. Involuntary, defensive Avatar states are always effectively berserk. When Aang entered the state involuntarily, he wasn't himself, he was something else, and it would take something extreme to reach inside him and bring him back out of it. Korra really hadn't had experience with the defensive version of the state until this point, which is why I think she was so traumatized by it and seeing visions of it in book 4... it wasn't her. She literally didn't recognize her own father until Suyin pulled the poison from her and she exited the Avatar state.. she looked up to her dad and said "Dad, you're alive?" This moment didn't just represent being poisoned, being hurt, being attacked for just being the Avatar, the only thing she ever wanted to be, it also represented a distinct lack of control to a person who was terrified of being out of control. For a lot of people, not being in control can be uncomfortable, or even scary, but for Korra, it's terrifying. Korra is outwardly strong, forthright, and confident, it's what her entire personality and world view is built on, because inside, she is afraid of not being in control, of not knowing what to do or how to do it. At first, Aang rejected his role as Avatar in a world that desperately needed him. In contrast to that, Korra embraced her role as avatar in a world that considered her irrelevant. So being stripped of control, being repeatedly told that she doesn't matter to the world, and getting attacked for it, like when Amon took her bending, or when she was forcibly stripped of Raava, or here when she was poisoned by Zaheer, it destroyed her. Keep in mind, all that happened inside a year. In book 4 she is haunted by the ghost of the avatar berserk state because it represents not her greatest moment of triumph, but to her, her greatest moment of weakness, when she lost herself, and forgot who she was.

Another way looking at it. Aang is about facing his fears and truly accepting his responsibilities. Only thing I didn't like about Aang is how selfish he came off at times. Korra shows the human side of being the avatar, something fans don't think about it. Too many fans think Avatars are meant to be unstoppable and perfect. In reality they're still humans. Korra displays the human side of things and learns to be compassionate and adapt to world she not familiar with.

SHE has to be the one to pick herself up once again. and it' not easy, she has to WORK for it and it's hard and she struggles, but still she's able to take that first step to heaaling physically and psychologically. and she can't start big, she can't start how she WANTS to start, she has to start small, she has to start slow. she starts, with her big toe.

BTW i figured out a way how each bender can fly in their own way. While earth benders can't really, "Fly" per say, they can launch themselves up high or forward quickly by bending the ground to essentially hit them forward in a way while gaining acceleration. If they were to do this mentally alone, while using and bending metal cables forward and binding them to objects, they can fling themselves forward at incredible speeds and just continuously gain acceleration. Fire benders just have to maintain a constant flow and heat of flames produced from their hands and feet, if anything, a combustion bender could possibly create a constant rhythm of explosions behind them, accelerating themselves further forward in the air or on the ground. Airbenders can litterally make a tornado under themselves or learn to fly by "letting go of earthly teathers" as Zaheer did, and water-benders can literally ride on clouds of fog, or even use some form of self-blood bending, to suspend themselves in the air while not constraining or changing blood flow.

One thing to note about the lore of season 3. Korra never fought the red lotus. She only fought zaheer. Twice, that was it. Once when she was in chains on laghimas peak and obviously the final fight. I think if Korra had a fair fight, even without the avatar state, she would have beaten zaheer and potentially the entire red lotus. But that’s what makes it so great, zaheer is smart, nimble, and plans ahead. He knew that he couldn’t beat her fair and square, so he had to come up with plans to work around her strengths and expose her weaknesses.
