ABOUT ME:
I’m Liam Harrison, Bolton born and bred. I’m a lover of Golf, life and laughter.
Started Golf 12 years ago after packing in football when i was 28 due to a back injury.
I started the KZbin channel as a laugh and a Wim, to make me practice but that went out the window as i started vlogging, loving being on camera but more so the interaction with my #golfmates.
In 14 months i have seen the channel evolve and become the only real golf community on KZbin which i am extremly proud of.
I would like to thank all the #golfmates that have been with us and supported us and the channel from the start. Also not forgetting our new #golfmates that may have only just come across the channel.

Interesting as always Liam, thanks mate, 👍🏻. After 10 years away from golf and 3 major neck surgeries in the last 4 years I recently said stuff it, if Tiger can come back after neck surgery then I can too tho probably not climb up so high as the great one lol. So, fed-ex just texted me that my brand new from eBay F7 one lengths will be delivered today. Spot on!! I know it’s a chancy thing but for $260us, and $105us delivery, ie about $370Aus up for 7 brand new clubs instead of between $950 and $1150 retail here, all I reckon I can’t go too far wrong. 50 lightly used Callaway balls for $35 and a net coming for $35 and hopefully in a few weeks I’ll be ready to go out and have a go for real again. Thank you Liam, Pat and Dick for all the inspiration you’ve given that has brought me to this point, will let you know how I go, enjoy your golf guys, take care 😎👌

I just bit the bullet on the F9 Cobra one lengths. Only had them at the range, they do take some getting used to. The longer short irons - 8-9-PW - feel odd. Initial impressions, hitting them much straighter. Just have to get use to ball position on the ground. I am a hacker by the way 25hcp. So, we'll see how we go. Good, relevant and interesting content. Thanks lads.

Probably the best candidate for one length irons. He had really high clubhead speed. He hits his own 7 iron over 160 yards so he would be swinging it in excess of 85 mph. Now when he moves to SL irons he will also swing his short 5 iron at that speed with more control. It’s a win-win. However the average golfer swings his 7 iron @ 75mph and hits it less than 140 yards. When he goes to his SL 5 iron he will also swing that @ 75 mph and with the lower loft on the 5 Iron he will never get in the air. It’s the same reason that in the ladies SL irons cobra they don’t go lower than a six iron. Summary. If you have great club head speed and spray it .... these could be ideal. If you have average club head speed you will effectively have a bag of 7 irons. Better to get hybrids for the 5, 6 or even 7 irons these will at least launch the ball higher with you average speed and get you some more distance. Any good club fitter will tell you if you cannot swing a 5 iron at 80 mph you shouldn’t carry one. Most average golfers are sub 80 with a 5 iron.
@transformyourtraining6981

Great analogy....I normally hit a very high ball and that 5 iron came out for me with a perfect flight but I was swinging at 96mph with the one length 5 iron according to Sean....I do think anything below 85 ISH and it may come out too low and be hard to manage
@ulster7717
@ulster7717 5 жыл бұрын
James Dixon . Holy Sxxx. 96mph with 5 iron. You must swing the driver @ 110 ? . These clubs are fine for people like you and Bryson but for other mortals they will not provide the answer. BTW this means you would swing your SL wedge @ 96 mph. How are you coping with that.🏌️‍♂️😀

Cheers Mark 😊 Enjoy your content on James' channel, the 5 iron results were phenomenal, I do think I could get used to the Pw/9/8 , would just take a little time. Problem I've got is I hit the ball a decent way so I don't have many 4/5/6 irons in to greens....so I'd be sacrificing at the short end to make gains where I don't play many shots from....Decisions to make

I looked into this and watched videos and read reports etc etc. for quite some time before making my mind up. I decided on the best of both worlds. Now my 5, 6, and 7 are the same length, my 8 and 9 are "normal" and then all my wedges are the same. I find this works well for me, but each to their own. I play Cleveland 588's.

It takes time to get used to one length irons. A quick hit at the range is not enough. Ideally if you can borrow a set or hire some for 4 -5 games, then you can evaluate their benefits. Swing speed is an issue for the " long "one length irons. If you don't have a high swing speed as James has, you will struggle with low trajectory and low spin with the " long" one length irons, making for low trajectory shots that have erratic gapping distances. Below 26-30 degrees you may be better off introducing Hybrids (one length Cobras?) or variable length hybrid -irons ( e.g. Cleveland HB Launchers) . I have used Cobra One length hybrids 19,22,25 degrees with my mid 70's MPH iron swing speed, and have replaced the Cobra F9 19 with a 7 wood ( TS2) to get a reliable carry distance between the 22 Hybrid and my 5 wood. I had to get a perfect strike with the 19, which as we all know isn't a 100% shot, otherwise the 22 and 19 had similar carry. Once you have your one length set sorted, the main advantage of one length becomes the wide zone for approach shots that feel very repeatable. That is, rather than saying my favourite approach distance is X and therefore I try to get to X, so that my X distance club will find the green. For me , I have a zone from 80-150 m that my one length clubs work.

I played the Cobra One Lengths for a couple years and had some success. I just moved back to a progressive set because i found the long iron s flew to low and the short irons to high in the one length set. But I definitely recommend folks give them a go if they want the ball in the same spot for each iron - makes it easier and more consistent.

Interesting to see that for the 9 iron, the club went a shorter distance that your own 9 iron with wider dispersion. I believe you would benefit from the one length long irons, but should keep the standard length 8 9 and W. I tried the one length irons but found that the 8 9 and W all went pretty much the same distance, to gapping for me was no use.

Cost depends on who does them, some manufacturers will charge and others may not, most will have free of charge demo days where you can book it. This was arranged for me so at no cost to me for the actual fitting 🙂 You'll see me from time to time at Chorlton when Liam has his camera out, but I much prefer watching the three of them dick about, I'd rather people laugh at the dicks technique and not mine 🤣 First comp of the year Liam lost on a card playoff and I was one shot behind him, so hopefully one of us grabs a win this year

As a fitter, one should also evaluate the clients wedge game. This fitter never addressed this. Most strokes lost to handicap are from 125 yards in. Distances are really immaterial considering the modern lofts of modern clubs. What's important is the loft of the iron, not the number on the sole. Dispersion appeared better. But until the fitter also fits his wedge game, ie how many wedges, distances per wedge, and dispersion per current wedge, I wouldn't expect his handicap to come down much of anything. Figure in putts per round, and that's where one scores. Whether Brycen plays these irons is inconsequential. As a club fitter myself, this was a very basic fitting, one that falls far short of what any client should expect if he is going to spend big money on a new set of irons. Advice to Liam, don't ever go thru any fitting if your back is flaring up. Just a waste of time.
@transformyourtraining6981
@transformyourtraining6981 5 жыл бұрын
Agree with a lot of this, however I would still keep my wedge set up (50/54/58), I would just prefer to test little shots with the PW and shots out from under trees etc (where I can spend a lot of my time on the course) . Ideally I would spend hours trying all different options and that is the plan before separating with a lot of money

I think the reason he said that is we were there to film the one length speedback fitting as they had just been launched but it made no sense for me hitting a 7 iron that was 5 degrees stronger than my own and a shape I wouldn't use if given the option so we went for the forged tour which are a slightly older model
@KentnDebi
@KentnDebi 5 жыл бұрын
@@transformyourtraining6981 funny thing though James...they'll be nothing like Brysons clubs. Same basic forging, yes I agree, but...his will be ground to his specs, weighted and sorted for him, shafts will be sorted, spined, aligned and assembled to give him exactly what he needs, or feels he needs 🤔👍 The club's we see are nothing like what the tour guys use. Bryson is the top of that tree because everyone knows how geeky he is about his equipment, managing his equipment, managing himself, his caddie, course etc. etc. He is a huge investment/risk for Cobra (that is paying off at the moment👍) so of course they're going to push his involvement in it at every opportunity...and who can blame them😉 lol The important thing is that they worked for YOU and Shaun listened to your input 👌 good fitting...single figures beckons 👏 now pull the trigger on them 😉

Bad golfers should be focusing more on lessons rather than "fittings". All a fitting does is convince you to buy expensive new clubs. And guess who profits from you buying those clubs??? The fitter and the fitting industry! How can you fit a person who can't hit 5 consistent shots in a row? It's like giving a calculator to a person who doesn't know how to count yet. Learn how to swing a club and contact the ball consistently before making minute changes in shaft, lie and head type. Stop blaming the tools and get yourself to the range!

Bad golfers 😂😂 it's all relative mate....thanks for taking time out of your tour pro schedule to comment , because relatively to DJ, we're all awful...happily play anyone for money off my handicap to find out who's awful and who isn't 😂 and FYI I didn't buy clubs because I know clubs don't fix a swing , I just gave my opinion on them compared to my current ones, hope my opinion is ok to put across 😊

Never said I was a tour pro. I am terrible. I'm a 14 handicap. However, I hate the trend going on now about fitting. Its making high handicappers and beginners think they can greatly improve by just buying new clubs and that simply isn't the case. If you slice your driver or can't hit the sweet spot of your 7 iron, that new set of Taylor mades isn't going to change that. Just giving my 2 cents here, no need to get defensive bra.

Can't hit the sweet spot of their 7 iron? Not sure many hit it 168 average carry when they can't find the sweet spot...take your friend crossfield for example, 156 AVG carry with his 7 iron brah, so not sure your theory works out. People can improve by getting clubs fit for them, they can also improve more by having lessons. If people want to spend thousands on clubs then that's their choice and if they want to believe that's an easy fix then that's their choice too....I don't fall in to either of those categories unfortunately so barking up the wrong tree....it's hard to not get defensive when someone literally speaks broken biscuits

To bad that you, like many others, still don't understand that lessons and fitting go hand in hand. A good fitter will be able to work with bad shots as well. A fitting is also a lesson. He can identify faults and adapt equipment to compensate a little but it always must be accompanied with lessons. Someone sugesting otherwise is wrong. However, suppose you have an extreme outside to in swingpath with your driver resulting in an awfull slice. And you have been working hard to get rid of it. A good clubfitter might just identify that the weight of that club is to low, therefore you're prone to casting the club. He changes that. Now you have a fighting chance at your next lesson to get rid of that pesty slice. Here in the vid was not a fitting though, that was trying out clubs. A good fitting involves bending lies and lofts, and shafts and weighting and messuring etc, just to get the clups to perform maximum for you! Whether they are old or new. Not every club fits, but every club can be made to fit!

Very salesman like at the end when talking about gapping, only a 13 yard gap between one length 5 and 7, not ideal at all

I agree with that gapping not being ideal but I also believe with more shots you may have seen a slightly bigger gap, the 7 irons were all flushed from a strike point of view and seemed to be low spinning which increased carry. If I could get the 4 to carry at 190-195 and the pw at 125 I'd be more than happy with the gapping, the rest is down to strike / me

@@transformyourtraining6981 you definitely seemed to be striking it real nice. Did you get chance to try the hybrids at the top end? May get a bigger gap? I have the 19 degree and love it, especially out of the rough. It's making me consider the one length concept for sure

I hit two or three shots with the hybrid, and while it absolutely flew, I couldn't get over the feel or look, it felt like a junior club and I did top one which is not a shot I usually had with a hybrid. I have no doubt that is a mental issues but hybrid wasn't for me.... Also if you look at the gapping, what was apparent with my miss strikes with my own clubs is my furthest 9 went as far as my shortest iron....what was nice with the one length is all the dispersion is the same shape, the longer ones are left and the shorter ones are right, which is down to my swing fault of adding too much loft sometimes... You should try the irons out, it's a really interesting concept 😊
