One Mans Armor and Military Vehicle Collection

For every collectable there is a collector. In this case, one man who has amassed one of, if not the, largest collections of military vehicles and armor in America. And all restored to operating condition. The local chapter of the I.P.M.S. (International Plastic Modelers Society) has been invited for a private tour of the collection which IS NOT open to the public. Also a brief look at the railroad backdrop at Garagemahal and the monthly meeting of the Northern Utah National Model Railroad Association with a backdrop demo by Gill Bennett.

In 2 weeks the biggest collection I have ever seen!! 3 shows. First on the music boxes, player pianos and pipe organs. Then the 100+ small steam engines and power plant!! Then the railroad (full sized) and carousel. Holly crap!!

EXCITING!! Do share, it's a great way to get people on board. I love the collectors! Would be horders if they were not rich! This Sunday another over the top collection, the people are gone now, but the collection lives on! Pioneer era town. YUP, the whole town taken home and restored. Thousands of antiques, wagons, buildings, clock tower, church, the whole deal. Amazing. AND we are off the Chicago in a few weeks to see America's most over the top collection. THe guy has a narrow gauge train, IN HIS LIVING ROOM! A huge merry-go-round, and a power plant. An actual 1800's power plant INSIDE his 40,000 square foot home!

Hello Werner! Yes, I love to see this. I FEAR those who think war is some kind of answer, these days a real fear. However, remembering this history is necessary and in this case, fun. I went to a World War museum in Germany in 1971 with a group of Japanese students I was traveling with. Many friends asked me how I could do such a thing? My father had been killed by the Japanese in the war. He lived until 1955 but died. For me it was necessary to know how this all happened, to gain understanding. I hate war, but love history.

I think that museum was the museum that was on tank overhaul. If you look up the episode where they did the M18 HellCat if you want to learn more about the collection. The German tanks and the Japanese HA GO tanks and vehicles are worth the most. Germany only made just over 25,000 tanks during WWII so that's why the are worth the most. IDK how many tanks Japan made during the war but they didn't have that many. Plus 2:05 an American Grant lend lease to Britain during WWII, 3:08 M26 Pershing, 3:33 a Stewart, 3:40 M4A1 Sherman Tank, 3:53 M24 Chaffee, 4:05 M18 HellCat, 4;13 British Crusader, 4:21 Russian T34-85, 4:34 British Churchill Heavy Tank, 4:40 American Priest, 4:46 German Hetzer, 5:03 German Goliath, 5:19 American M4A3 Sherman tank, 7:30 a British Universal Carrier for ground Infantry, 8:39 a Japanese HA GO light tank. The Goliath use was to go out into a mine field and blow up to destroy all the mines or other obstetrical out on a battle field. The Goliath was mainly used on the Eastern front at the Battle of Kursk mainly, but IDK if It has shown up at any other battle in WWII. Historical reenacting has been getting larger and larger as the years go by because of the huge Battle Anniversary's, and WWII collecting and reenacting gets more expensive as the years go by, I have been doing the hobby for 6 years and it is a really neat hobby for someone to get into. While I don't know much of anything about Armor, these are amazing!! Yes, on Tank Overhaul. "Smith" loves doing that sort of thing, they even do tug-of-wars there and the like. But he's getting tires of like 12 people per day calling wanting to see the tanks. Be nice if he set up a system to have the place open on some days. And charge enough to cover the costs of opening. People should get to see this!!!

The one at 3:18 started the whole thing. His dad bought it for like a buck after the war, and tore the turret off turning it into a bulldozer. So as a kid he drove it all over the place and got the idea to make it whole. But there were no turrets left anywhere. Then he found one in France. But France was against it going back to America for some damn reason, so he got someone in Germany to buy it, and brought it home from there. Cost a fortune. BUt he was hooked.

Oh, OK! Yeah I saw it, I knew that the collection in this video looked similar to the one I saw on Tank Overhaul a while back. The collection looks similar to the one on Tank Overhaul the Episode when they did the ,18 HellCat. I know you said you weren't into Military equipment that much, so I thought I would educate you a little about Military Equipment. Its a neat story about how these WWII Vehicle collectors get started and restore old tanks, cars, trucks, and motorcycles. I have been to the Jock Littlefield collection a few times, he was they guy who restored the Panther on Tank Overhaul. And I must say it was amazing to see the time he really put into those tanks. Unfortunately he Passed away like 7 or 8 years ago and his crew that he worked with when they restored tanks they kept the museum going until the family decided to sell his whole collection of Military vehicles.

Off to Grand Junction this weekend. there is a guy there who takes troupe carriers and turns them into WW II tanks. Built from plywood, they look 100% correct. Proper wheels and all. For reenactment.

Wow, I have seen a lot of guys take modern vehicles and turn them into historically accurate Tanks, Trucks, Jeeps, and so many more awesome pieces of machinery!!! Most of the time they use them for Air-soft reenactments, Tactical events, and even public events.

There used to be a guy in my area (SF peninsula) who owned a big collection of military stuff like this guy. I was able to visit his collection with my cub scouts troop when I was younger. 5:25. The tank is possibly going to be a Jumbo, due to the added inch of frontal armor. Also had 150mm of turret armor all around. Was slower due to the added weight of the armor. Also, it could bounce an 88 of angled to 30 degrees

For about a year I passed a military "museum" along side I-94 just south of the the WI/IL state line. Armored vehicles, airplanes, choppers etc. A lot of them in pretty rough shape The Ford 1100 CID V-8 was based off of a 1650CID/27L V-12 that Ford Motor Co designed to compete with the Allison and Merlin engines. Those were both SOHC designs while the Ford V-1650 was DOHC

M18 Hellcat at 1:49 which is arguably the best American tank destroyer of WWII.

The former buldozer tank is a US M26 Pershing designed to replace the Sherman, saw service in very late WW2 and was also used in Korea and in fact due to it's mechanical issues many M26's was replaced by M4A3E8's known as Easy Eights. The up armoured Sherman has the nickname "Jumbo" classified as a M4A3E2 the armour on it was that thick that even some of the biggest American guns would struggle to penetrate the armour in testing. The "Avenging angel" is a M18 Tank Destroyer no armour, very fast and a punchy gun. I could go on for hours about this..

There is a Russian T-54/55 at the first of the video. The mid way point I saw a Nazi German Panzerjager, it was the one with the gun and no turret. I saw a Stuart tank that was a little U.S. tank with a 37mm main gun. The one with the small turret with a 37 mm gun and a 75 mm side gun mounted to the right on the chassis that one is call the Grant tank. The one where he went to France to get a turret is called the Pershing and it entered service as WW2 was winding down. It was considered a heavy tank as opposed to most of the tanks of that period. It weighed more and carried a 90mm main gun and was designed to go head to head with the Tiger Panzer which was Germany heavy tank. The M4 Sherman was no match for this tank. The only way Sherman's could defeat the Tiger is sneak up behind it and shoot it in the butt disabling it not really killing it. The Sherman however, when hit with the German tank's 88mm would explode. Often times the American tankers had to be creative in taking out the Tiger tank. Another tank the Americans had trouble with taking out was the Panther which was another of Germany's heavy tanks, but it isn't as memorable s the Tiger.

It was great. Hard to get on the list, the Fort Douglas Museum was running the tour, and it filled up quickly. We keep calling until we got through to someone and by then it was full, but got on a waiting list. Got in!!!

My friend is a tank expert. he even knows the calibers and top speed of these machines and many other. And he does this whit like 300 of them. even onces who only exist on paper! That Japanese tank is so rare, they didin't had that many armored forces. Japan also wanned to produce Multi turret heavy tanks...these things are huge. but didin't make it of the drawning board. also their design said that they should be made whit click-nails. but tanks are welded becasue these nails are not strong enough. Japan was very childish in tank design. They didin't knew what they did.

"Mr Smith" told us that riveted tanks were extra dangerous because the rivets became projectiles when hit with a shell. CRAP. Thats why American tanks were all welded in WW2.

@@ToyManTelevision the G 13 is the one that i think is the main german tank seen in the video, it has no turret and has a camo scheme unlike the american stuff. It is painted to look like a normandy 1944 style of Jagpanzer 38(t) (the t meaning it was made in the chek republic), the nickname for this tank was the Hetzer but there is disagreement on that. After the war the Swiss took the disign and added reatures to it, a different exhaust, a rack to put on a spare road wheel, a different gun with a muzzle break (the original hetzer did not have one) and an escape hatch. It isn't a hetzer really, it is a decendent of the Chek tank. The differences are more priminent in a photo comparison. Hum.. he does a few films but his position with the filmmakers is if you wanna do something and you have money fine. But don’t ask for anything. No changes or mods at all. He brings whatever he has and his own people and that’s what they get. Period. But his passion is reenactment. So he may have paint for a battle he does often and cheats a bit on the type of tank. Don’t know and can’t ask. He was very clear he and his friends chose to be left to screw around with their toys not deal with people who call or show up. Which is why I can’t say where or who they are. But lots of people I’ve spoken to know exactly who he is and where he is but know to leave them alone.

@@ToyManTelevision Im not saying anything bad about the tank because of it, so many museums and collectors have G13s and not hetzers, they just work, and if it works for the owner of the vehicle, what does it matter if it is a bit off. I can see why he wouldn't want it to be a public or a very well known private collection though, it would take a lot of maintenance and trust and with the cost of all the kit i think it is right that it should be a select amount of people who are allowed to see the collection. Great video by the way.

He needs to look in the fuel tank.An ex Iraqi one was full of gold nicked from Kuwait.The British collector made several million after discovering and declaring it to Police.The hoard was in one of the 2 Fuel tanks.

Very. One guy I know takes troop transporters and builds fake tops on them out of plywood. Look real but cost almost nothing. And no parts problem. The turret on the one tank took almost ten years to find and get out of France. Had to slip it into Poland and them ship it out from there. France thought it should never go back to the US. No idea what he spent, but tens of thousands. And the only one he could find anywhere.
