No matter how dark it gets, you’re not alone. You might not know them, they might not know you, but when it feels like there is absolutely nothing left to give and everything feels hopeless, remember there are people going through similar situations. Seek them out when you can and help them get through it together, it’s the only way I’ve managed the last 15 years with chronic pain, and the repercussions of trying to fix it. Laughing at myself helps, but there’s nothing quite like someone else understanding it. My wife has been there besides me the whole time and she understood. Unfortunately she recently got diagnosed with a chronic issue and her realization of how bad it can get was a bit eye opening for both of us. I learned to open up more about the bad days and it’s helped quite a bit. Not everyone has someone as close, though we often don’t know how much our friends/family are also struggling, and it’s a good rule of thumb to not trust, and open up, to random people on the internet, but there are some really good communities out there. Hang tough, you can do this!

My 20's seemed rather hopeless, while everyone around me was having the time of their life, I was in an apathetic fog, as the years rolled on, I slowly lived through this, and now I am blessed with an insightful philosophy that allows me to appreciate life as I never could have imagined. I know this video is old, but I’ve only discovered you very recently. This past week…your music has kept me alive. And I mean that very literally. I’ve been on a never ending journey with my mental illness my entire life and recently after losing the job of my dreams and many other other things that have happened I’ve fallen into a deeper hole than the one I usually live in. It’s dark here…darker than I’m accustomed to. And just when I was ready to accept that darkness I happened across Chalk Outlines while listening to Chinchilla. From there I found Hi Ren and I can honestly say I was floored, I did not expect to click on a video and see a live action remake of my own mind plays out daily. This is the first time I have EVER found someone who I immediately stopped and thought “holy shit, he’s like me. He IS me.” There’s a lot more I’d love to bore you with the details but I truly just want you to know…even now, just this week..your art has saved someone. When all I could see was darkness, you handed me a flashlight. It’s still dark of course, but it’s much easier to find a way out if you have a little light to guide you. 🖤

I´m a 58 year old man from Belgium with a lovely wife and great sons, but unfortunately I went through the deepest dark for two-three years due to a number of reasons. But since april last year I feel good again (what a feeling! - since I didn´t expect it any more) thanks to therapy, that I didn´t want /avoided way to long. But the real lifesavers/lifechangers in that period were... artists/video´s on You Tube. If Michael Stipe (R.E.M.) didn´t sing 'Hold on/Hang on' in Everybody Hurts, I doubt if I would still be here. If Nightbirde didn´t sing ´It´s okay´ on AGT and didn´t say ´You can´t wait until life isn´t hard anymore before you decide to be happy', maybe I´d still be depressed. Just to say: I saw THIS video (and 'Hi Ren' and the reactions on YT to it) and I know FOR SURE this changes the life/thoughts of many people, this indeed saves lives. Ren = hope. Because he´s real. Because he´s been there. Because he´s a (beautiful) human being...

One of my favorite things about you Ren is not just that your duly earned, collective wisdom transcends time, spirituality, culture, or the human body but that you possess the will to act on it. That you choose to epitomize the meaning of life in any situation, and that's creation. That you have given yourself to this conviction and therefore given yourself to us. Given us, no matter what stage of development or time in our life, a lucid reminder of what we are and what we can be, should we find the courage and conviction to act on it. It's beyond infectious. Its purpose that you exemplify. We all have purpose and let's act on it or discover it together, because if we don't share it, then we might as well never have it. Bless you and stay strong brother because while you may appear strong right now, I know that this power and responsibility you accept grows and tests your limits. But I know you will do your best and your best is all we can ask for because no one can do it on their own and that you have appropriately, and effectively passed the torch on, and continue to do so. It's took me a while to write this as I completely broke whilst listening to your words but I just want to thank you for sharing your pain and the most insidious part of your life in such a connective way. You are an amazingly talented singer and musician but more importantly you a beautiful, courageous soul who has given me strength in a very dark period of my life and for that I will be eternally grateful. So much of your struggles resonates with me personally and I too have often thought there's no end to this nightmare, it's hard to see the beauty of the world from your bedroom walls and endless hospital appointments, but you and your renegades have helped me see there is still hope for the future.
