I leave the drawer/ cupboard doors etc open until I keep away the item I've taken out. It drives me crazy to see it open, so I'll keep away the item for sure!

I keep a box or bag in my closet where I put donations in- whether it’s an clothing item that no longer fits/ stationary items/ unused kitchen utensils nothing is to small to declutter ☺️ and when the box is full I donate it

When my children were small, I worked long hours on the weekend. On Monday after dinner, we had 15 minute pick up. We each had a job- dishes, vacuum, pick up, dust. We played upbeat music and set the timer. It was amazing how much we accomplished in 15 minutes!

In smaller spaces, like a messy bathroom counter, I’ll use a 5-second rule that’s sort of like the minute rule: if it would take me 5 seconds or less to put something away, do it now; if it would take longer, I can decide when to do it. I count down from 5 as I start putting something away and then restart the count when I pick up another item. It’s truly amazing how a few seconds clears a space right up.

Every Wednesday I do a reset in my home. I just go through the whole house and wipe/pick up what I haven't gotten to yet. It's hard with 5 kids home 24/7 with homeschool. It's not laziness- it's my chronic illness that's so aggressive that's interfering with my ability to have it spotless. I liked your video. Great tips and not judging. You never know why someone's home is the way it is. I agree on the counters! And bed making. Huge difference just in that.

Thank-you, it took me awhile to figure these all out for myself but I did and my home is a lovely refuge. I’m sending this to my three young adult children. A big one is processing the mail immediately and dealing with action items right away. This is a big anxiety reliever. It seems hard but it makes things better if we will just do it as a habit.

Loved this video ❤ I started doing most of these habits years ago when I realised living in my clutter was not helping my anxiety or stress levels and you’re so right, a clutter free home, workspace and car is so nice and makes living life less stressful. My husband used to think I’m being unnecessarily extra, but he’s since understood that I just hate having things pile up and having to clean up a big mess.

Great tips thank you! For Mums/Parents a great tip although double handling, is pretty cane drop baskets (because NOTHING I say or do has my kids stop dumping things) as drop zones & drop a throw rug that drapes off of it. BTW I do (like a broken habit) continue to try & help them form habits, shoes in the tub not next to it etc 😅

When I come home I always put my wallet on the shelf in the foyer closet & the keys go on a small hook on the inside of the foyer closet door. Special tickets for concerts , the train, sports events , ect. go in the same place in a kitchen cabinet. Receipts from recent purchases also go in the same place in case I need to return them . Basically use the same place for various important items so you know where they are at all times . Also, empty the clothes dryer and dishwasher soon after they turn off.

Clean as I go. I have a bag or basket with me so i can take items with me that don’t belong on the main level or room. I wipe down surfaces often, including sweeping and mopping my floors on each level. Putting clothes away after the dryer cycle ends. Garbage is taken to the bin after I tie it closed. There’s so many things that make my life easier.

Scan/screenshot and print receipts, stapling the original to it, for items with a warranty and file immediately with something that clearly identifies the product in your warranty file. When something breaks before it should, this makes it easy peasy to return/repair it (even if the ink on the receipt has faded out!). In fact, I have one such broken item to deal with today! It could have been a hassle with a loss of about $20 if that wasn't my routine. Boldly writing the expiration makes it easy to purge when no longer needed.

I realize that I do pretty much all of these automatically because I've chosen to teach myself to do them. The frustration is my ADHD partner does absolutely none of them and it drove me mad until I understood his ADHD. Now we have one designated space where he can go full gremlin mode and I can maintain the order in all the other rooms. It saved my relationship and from me feeling resentful about doing all the work keeping our home manageable and presentable.

I have been doing all of these one minute habits except for two...reading mail as soon as I get it. Probably because it means I have to deal with it immediately. Also, putting worn clothes away. I don't have space to hang them with my clean clothes so I am guilty of leaving them on the chair in my bedroom. I leave them there until I do a wash dedicated to their colour (whites, coloureds or blacks) and then wash them regardless. Such great , do-able tips btw, I should share this with my sons...

As a neat person, it's nice to see that I already do all of those things as a habit! But living with a naturally messy partner I feel like I do things double. Have any tips in that regard maybe?

Get them on board, it might take time, but tidying should be a team effort 🤍

@@AshlynneEaton I've been trying that for about 2 years now. Trying to give the good example, asking to do the small tasks, implementing the 1 minute rule. It just doesn't come naturally to them like it does to me. They just care less about clutter than I do. I do these things naturally, I've always been like this. It's just annoying to always remind and ask 🤣

I’ve been married for 31 years this month and my husband still hasn’t learned how to be tidy or pick up after himself 🤪 but he works 12 hour shifts so I’m the one who keeps the house clean . So I try not to complain 😊

@@MariekeLjust a reminder don’t get it over to your head and stressed your self out okay! No matter how much we encourage them they would never change, so stop reminding them all together, cause as long as we keep nagging them unfortunately it put a lot of stress to us! And that is just too tiring to deal with. Just do what you do without having a second thoughts that they should pick up after themselves instead, its draining having that thought every time 😌 Hopefully as time goes on no more nagging no more forcing, they’ll want to try to do it themselves, not because we purposely show them that good act, but make it happened cause they were inspired by it. It will take a long time, but for now do what you can control and let go of what you can’t control, that is letting go of our expectation you have on them and don’t try to change them as they are out of our control. Cheers

That's such a lovely living room! Is the artwork a tv screen or actual art? I love it! The one minute rule is such a good idea. I've been trying to create new little habits and was looking at Kaizen principles and the whole 1% improvement approach and have started making sure every night I gather the remotes and put on the TV console. Has been saving so much time as we're not spending time hunting for it. I don't agree with bed making as that just seems pointless to me, but love all your other tips ☺️

It’s a Samsung frame TV, so it’s designed to display art went on “rest mode”. And love the 1% improvement concept!

I double check during the tidying up that I've done my tasks and not forgotten part of it. I can then cross them off my list. Clothes I can wear again I note where I put them in the closet.

Hey! I love the tips! Thank you for sharing. I would love to know where you got your loose leaf tea organizer jars. So so cute. P.s you have inspired me to make the shift to loose leaf tea only :)
