One of the most impressive leads on grit I've seen due to the long reaches for thin edges, technical nature of the footwork on barely there holds, and always the idea that to slip would likely be to die. Congratulations Tom Randall. Almost every comment wonders why he climbed with a rope. My guess is for the physical protection it offers initially, and the psychological protection it affords higher up. There's a big difference between doing the first lead and doing the first ascent freesolo. Might as well not wear any pants when putting the route up.

That was bloody awesome! You went for ages with no belays and as it says, one fall would be near fatal. You have plenty of balls to do that. Amazing....

What going on with the first section top rope????

Appreciate that’s a dangerous climb but do we need the funeral home music?

Great climb but why even tie in?
@vincentbelmas97877 жыл бұрын
Maybe the section around the only protection was the big crux of the route, and that the moves around it were quite uncertain. I really don't think this climber is stupid, he must have a good reason to use the gear and not soloing the route.

He wanted to lead it! Not solo it!

I'm guessing to get lowered from the anchor he was holding at the end of the climb

So he doesn’t die?

@@work2live756 He would hit the ground either way if he fell.

I fully don't understand the purpose of tying in at all. It was meaningless
@joeconn1947 жыл бұрын
ryanwsu4 he can be lowered tho

The beginning part looked much harder, too. So he's still protected for the crux section

We all takes risks, it’s just a question of perspective.

I’m guessing he placed the first piece of gear then downclimbed to rest before the full push. That’s not top roping 😂

This wearing two different shoes thing. Is it just a gimmick and trend started by Seb Grieve climbing Meshuga in Hard Grit? Or does it serve some actual purpose?
@joshrawson83487 жыл бұрын
It can be actually very useful if you are doing a route where for example there are a lot of edges for the right shoe and a lot of smears for the left shoe. You would then prefer a stiff right sole for the edges and a soft left sole for the smears. I don't think it makes that much difference until you are right on your limits of ability, but also when doing something this dangerous if it gives you even a tiny bit more trust in your feet it can hugely help your mental game even if it isn't really doing anything. Plus its Tom Randall so I wouldn't question him hahaha he is definitely better than me!

Different foot shapes, maybe? Bunyon on one foot?

Yes stupid bonkers but a great climber

I wanted something more dangerous so I put down bouldering pads and climbed to the first piece on top rope.
